Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob has lost control of his Telegram messaging application to hackers.

Telegram is a messaging application similar to WhatsApp with an emphasis on security as it has end-to-end encryption and self-deleting messages.
However, it is not invulnerable to unauthorised access. In the past, several articles and online videos had demonstrated that spoofing techniques could be used to hijack Telegram accounts.
In 2019, a leaked Telegram group chat led to the resignation of Puerto Rican governor Ricardo Rosselló. In total, 889 pages of chat logs were leaked, purportedly by hackers.
Telegram was created by Russian brothers Nikolai and Pavel Durov, who also co-founded VK - Russia's largest social networking site.
