Anti-hopping law: DAP to add two new provisions in its constitution
DAP intends to add two new provisions to the party’s constitution in its special congress scheduled for Sept 25.
Its organising secretary Steven Sim said the amendments are meant to address the gaps in the anti-hopping law.

“DAP fully supports the spirit of the anti-hopping law so with this, we will have amendments to the party constitution so that we can close the gap in the constitutional amendment (that prevents jumping parties),” Sim (above, right) said at a press conference at the DAP headquarters in Kuala Lumpur today.
His deputy organising secretary Ng Suee Lim was also present.
The first amendment will see any member of the party who is an MP, assemblyperson or appointed senator cease to be a party member if they fail to comply with directives issued by the central executive committee (CEC).
The second amendment will add a provision that states the CEC may issue specific directives to any of its elected representatives at the Dewan Rakyat, state assemblies or appointed senators.
Sim said the congress will take place from 8am to 12pm at the Ideal Convention Centre in Shah Alam.
During the winding-up speech for the second reading of the anti-hopping bill in the Dewan Rakyat in July, Wan Junaidi explained an MP is still free to throw their support to a different party, including when voting in Parliament.
Such an action would not constitute party hopping as long as they remain in their original political party, he added.
However, he had said that the scenario would be different if the party constitution bans such action, and makes one automatically "ceases" to be its member once the rule is breached.
On a separate matter, Sim said Pakatan Harapan had finished negotiating seats for four to five states this week.
They intend to complete their seat negotiations by the end of this month, he added.
