'I don't know about it' - Selangor PAS chief on souring ties with Bersatu claims

Selangor PAS commissioner Yunus Hairi claimed he was in the dark over speculation that the relationship between his party and Bersatu had soured.

When asked to comment on a news report highlighting the matter, Yunus said he was not privy to the details.

"I do not know. You have to ask the source who spoke (to the news portal)," Yunus (above) told Malaysiakini.

Earlier, Free Malaysia Today claimed the relationship between the two parties in Selangor was strained due to dissatisfaction among leaders of the Perikatan Nasional component parties.

Citing a source from PN, it was said that PAS leaders were unhappy with the distribution of PN division chief posts in Selangor, which covers the 22 parliamentary constituencies in the state.

“According to an earlier agreement on the distribution of the posts, nine would go to Bersatu, another nine to PAS and the remaining four to Gerakan. This was agreed to by all three PN parties.

“But this was suddenly changed to 10 for Bersatu, eight for PAS and four for Gerakan,” he told FMT, adding PAS did not agree to this.

Due to the dissatisfaction, the source claimed that many Selangor PAS leaders have decided to boycott a function with PN chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin, which is scheduled to be held in Shah Alam tonight.

Pressed on the matter, Yunus stated he was not informed of any boycott move against Muhyiddin’s function today.

“Who is the PAS person (the source)? I don’t know anything of it,” he stressed, adding he would be attending the function later.

When asked how many people would be attending the function, Yunus said, “Maybe 400, 500 or even 1,000.”

'Only a minor problem'

Separately, PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man noted there were issues arising between his party and Bersatu in Selangor, but stressed they were only "minor problems".

"Issues between PAS and Bersatu, I think there are only minor problems.

"Because we always have discussions (and) whatever is discussed in PAS and in Bersatu, will be brought to the PN presidential council," Tuan Ibrahim said during a press conference in Parliament today.

"We will settle all matters arising through the PN platform," said the Environment and Water Minister.

It is to note that Selangor PN is led by Azmin Ali from Bersatu.

Selangor has 22 parliamentary seats and 56 state seats. The state has been ruled by the Pakatan Rakyat/Pakatan Harapan coalitions since 2008.
