Khairy steps aside for Mat Hasan in Rembau

The issue of the BN candidate for the Rembau parliamentary seat has been settled after the incumbent, Khairy Jamaluddin, publicly announced that he was giving way to Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan to contest there in the 15th general election (GE15).

The Malaysian Gazette reported that Khairy, who is also the Rembau Umno deputy chief, made the announcement when delivering the adjournment speech at the Rembau Umno delegates meeting today.

When asked to comment on the announcement, Mohamad, a former state menteri besar, said that BN will try to get a suitable parliamentary seat for Khairy because he is a young leader of calibre.

"We don't want to lose a talent like him and have him disappear just like that.

"We are trying to find a suitable place for him to contest in GE15," he told reporters after the meeting.

Previously, the issue was hotly discussed after Mohamad announced his intention to run for the Rembau seat held by Khairy for three terms since GE12.

Khairy, who is the health minister in the caretaker government of Ismail Sabri Yaakob, also made an Instagram post in which he said he was handing over the Rembau seat.

"Handing over the Rembau seat to Mohamad after three rewarding terms as MP. God willing, he will have a big victory and continue to look after Rembau well."
