KJ not perfect, but a loss if he sits out GE15 - Reezal

It would be a loss for Umno if Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin does not contest the 15th general election, said party supreme council member Reezal Merican Naina Merican.

This came after Khairy indicated he would be ceding Rembau to his division chief, Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan - with no replacement seat lined up for himself as of yet.

Reezal (above) said while Khairy was vocal, and may not always be right or perfect, he was still an important political asset to ensure Umno's victory in the forthcoming election.

He said the former Umno Youth chief could be a pull factor for first-time voters.

"Khairy is seen as a personality who gives balance to attract voters, especially 18-year-olds and first-time voters.

"Demographic changes, post-Undi18, are quite dynamic and Khairy has an aura that can maintain the winning momentum of Umno and BN,” the housing and local government minister said on Facebook last night.

Contest in Seremban?

Khairy, who has held the Rembau seat since 2008, said yesterday that in the worst-case scenario, he would not contest GE15.

The health minister said he has been asked to find another seat to contest, but he does not want to encroach on others.

However, Seremban Umno Youth has a solution in mind.

The division youth chief Zool Amali Hussein suggested for Khairy to contest in Seremban - a seat that has traditionally been contested by MCA and is a DAP stronghold.

"I highly encourage Khairy to contest in Seremban as there has been an increase in young and Malay voters," he said.

The last time BN held Seremban, an urban mixed seat, was in 2004.

Seremban is represented by DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke, who first won the seat in 2013.
