'Devil' appears during polls, DAP leaders say after Hadi links party to communism

DAP vice-chairperson Nga Kor Ming lamented that his party was being slandered by the “devil” as the 15th general election draws close.

He said this after PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang linked DAP to communists and called for the “pro-communist party” to be rejected.

"When PAS fails, they resort to dirty tactics by uttering imbecilic slanders. I’m fed up," tweeted the incumbent Teluk Intan MP.

“Every time there is an election, the ‘devils’ appear and hurl slander. This ‘everything is DAP’s fault’ argument has been proven to be the biggest lie in the history of human civilisation. Enough is enough.”

Nga (above) then shared an image of Hadi linking DAP to communism in his tweets, which he took from the PAS leader’s social media posting.

Yesterday, Hadi said any effort to sow the communist ideology in Malaysia, claimed to have been spearheaded by the DAP before, should be rejected.

"Communism is a secular belief that rejects belief in God. They are more extreme than Christian and Jewish colonisers.

"Communists do not bring military forces like the Western colonial powers, but their ideology ‘colonises’ the minds of people of various races so as to be recruited in their military forces," said Hadi in a social media posting together with several images that linked DAP to communists.

One of the seven images revisited the controversy of bringing back the cremains of Communist Party of Malaya (CPM) leader Chin Peng, who lived in exile in Thailand after the CPM was disbanded.

It also touched on the commemoration of CPM held in Kajang in December 2019 and the publication of a controversial comic book titled “Belt and Road Initiative for Win-Winism” by former DAP member Hew Kuan Yau.

Meanwhile, Nga's party colleague P Ramasamy said Hadi should not try to introduce a “red scare” (McCarthyism) era in Malaysia.

Senator Joseph McCarthy became infamous for his wild allegations against communists, socialists and anarchists in the US in the 1950s and his popularity was in part due to the conservative support he received from Americans who were afraid of progressive reforms in the country after World War II.

Subsequently, it was found that McCarthy’s allegations of subversion, terrorism and anarchism attributed to communists had no basis whatsoever.

"Hadi, out of political desperation, is trying to label DAP members as communists for bringing back Chin Peng’s cremains and attending communist-related functions in the country.

"Even the extreme Malay chauvinists in Bersatu and Umno, or even Pejuang, might find Hadi’s attack against DAP to be far-fetched as it is too absurd," he said.

Ramasamy, who is also Penang Deputy Chief Minister II, said it was not that Hadi cannot differentiate between social democrats, socialists and hardcore communists.

Selective amnesia

"Hadi is a political opportunist par excellence and principles don’t matter to him.

"Once PAS collaborated with DAP in Pakatan Rakyat before both parted ways. Once Umno was PAS’ sworn enemy but political circumstances allowed them to cooperate, connive and undermine Harapan’s legitimacy.

"Now, in facing GE15, PAS has gone back to its old ways by labelling Umno as the party of infidels and corrupted politicians," said Ramasamy, adding Hadi seemed to suffer from selective amnesia.
