PAS Youth chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari has clarified the circumstances surrounding a viral photograph showing the party’s leaders meeting and sharing a meal with Umno leaders.

Fadhli in a statement confirmed that the Islamist party’s president Abdul Hadi Awang and deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man met their Umno counterpart on October 12.

“They had a discussion for over an hour. (Umno Youth chief) Asyraf (Wajdi Dusuki) was outside during the entire discussion.

“The PAS president was there to delve into the heart of Umno and listen to the conditions which would be set by the Umno president (Ahmad Zahid Hamidi).

“The PAS deputy president was present to witness the meeting and recorded details of the discussion,” he said.

This comes after Asyraf uploaded a picture of Zahid and his deputy Mohamad Hasan engaging in a discussion with both Hadi and Tuan Ibrahim.

Although Fadhli refused to divulge more details on the presented conditions, he said Hadi was given a short period - two days from Oct 12 - to finalise the decision.

“On October 13, we had a PAS central meeting. There was no discussion on seats or on who would be the prime minister.

“What was being discussed was on law, what is the problem and harm?

“What came up during the meeting was about fate, not fate of the seats or leadership (who will be ‘charged’ tomorrow or the day after) but the fate of the people, race, and the nation.”

As soon as the four-hour-long party meeting was over, he explained, the final decision was made, where it was agreed for the party to strengthen Perikatan Nasional (PN) in the face of the 15th general election.

However, the party also remained steadfast in continuing with its agenda to “unite the ummah”.

The objective is to save the country from being destroyed under Pakatan Harapan, which is more harmful.

“I testify that both the PAS president and the deputy president have spoken the truth and have never broken their promises.”
