Amanah vice-president Mujahid Yusof Rawa has initiated legal action against PAS, over the latter's allegation that he is a supporter of the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) community.

According to the former minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) during the Pakatan Harapan administration, a letter of demand for defamation was sent to the PAS office yesterday through law firm Akrah Hizri Azad and Azmir.

The Islamist party has acknowledged its receipt.

"I will not also hesitate to take similar legal action against any other PAS leaders who have not grown tired of writing slanderous claims connecting me to the LGBT (community)," Mujahid (above) wrote on Facebook.

The legal action is particularly against a posting on PAS' official Facebook page on Oct 16, which claimed that Mujahid's meeting with transgender welfare activist Nisha Ayub in 2018 was an attempt to garner support for the LGBT community.

Among others, the demands in the letter include PAS erasing the said Facebook posting from its official page, retracting its accusation, apologising to Mujahid and compensating him for damaging his reputation, within 48 hours of receiving the letter.
