Incumbent Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman will defend his parliamentary seat in the 15th general election.

His candidacy was announced by party deputy president and election director Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz at a ceremony in Muar tonight.

In his speech, Syed Saddiq said he wanted to "renew his contract" with the Muar constituents.

"I cherish this contract as it comes once every five years. In 2018, the people of Muar gave me the opportunity to serve them. And now I return in 2022 with humility.

"Please give me, Syed Saddiq, the opportunity to serve and defend the rakyat to parliament and InsyaAllah (God willing) to Putrajaya," he said.

Syed Saddiq won the Muar parliamentary seat in GE14 under the Bersatu ticket by a 6,953-vote majority. Then incumbent Razali Ibrahim from Umno came in second at 15,388 followed by Maharani assemblyperson Abdul Aziz Talib from PAS.

This time, Syed Saddiq will go up against Muar Umno youth chief Mohd Helmy Abdul Latif and Johor PAS state commissioner Abdullah Hussin.

If he wins, it would be his second term as Muar MP.

Tonight's announcement marks the fifth Muda candidate who will be contesting under the party's logo, with others being Danial Abdul Majeed (Kepala Batas), Siti Rahayu Baharin (Tanjong Karang), Lim Wei Jiet (Tanjung Piai) and Shahrizal Denci (Kota Marudu).

The party has an electoral pact with Pakatan Harapan for GE15.
