12.35pm: Tenom, Sabah - Various video clips emerging out of Tenom appear to depict police using tear gas to disperse supporters of a political party.

Some of the supporters are seen trying to force their way into a nomination centre.

BN, PN to clash in Beluran despite Sabah pact

12.30pm: Beluran, Sabah - A clash between BN and PN is taking place in Beluran - despite both coalitions being partners in Sabah via the Bersatu-led Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS).

Yesterday, GRS announced that BN’s Benedict Asmat would contest the seat instead of incumbent Ronald Kiandee.

However, Ronald showed up at the nomination centre and is contesting the seat under the PN banner instead of the GRS flag used by Bersatu candidates in Sabah.

Ronald had been holding the seat since 1999 as a BN representative before he defected to Bersatu in 2019.

Meanwhile, in Ranau, PBRS president Ewon Ebin also broke ranks with GRS and is going against Bersatu incumbent Jonathan Yasin.

Ismail Sabri defends Bera against 2 contenders

12.26pm: Bera, Pahang - Caretaker prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob is up against two contenders from Harapan and PN respectively in his bid to defend his Bera parliamentary seat, according to Bernama.

Representing BN in the three-cornered fight, Ismail Sabri, who had been the incumbent of the seat since 2004, is challenged by Abas Awang (Harapan-PKR) and Asmawi Harun (PN-Bersatu).

The official list of candidates for the seat was announced by the returning officer for Bera, Zaman Azam Mohamet Sarif, at 11.23am right after the nomination process took place at the Bera District Council Convention Hall.

Ongkili to defend Kota Marudu

12.20pm: Kota Marudu, Sabah - Despite earlier speculation that he might leave for Tuaran, PBS president Maximus Ongkili is defending his Kota Marudu seat.

He has been contesting the seat since 1995 when it was named Bandau.

Five others are vying for the seat, including Muda’s Sharizal Denci, Warisan’s Zainuddin Kuminding, Pejuang’s Mohd Azmi Zulkiflee,  Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM)'s Wetrom Bahanda, and independent Norman Tulang.

KDM is a Warisan splinter party set up by the latter’s former vice-president Peter Anthony

Hadi seeks seventh term

11.30am: Marang, Terengganu - PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang will be among four candidates for Marang.

Hadi is seeking a seventh term as the Marang MP.

His challengers are Marang Umno Youth deputy head Jasmira Othman (BN), Azhar Ab Shukur (Pakatan Harapan), and Zarawi Sulong (Putra).

This was Azhar's second election appearance since being fielded by Harapan during the 2016 Sungai Besar by-election.

Four-cornered fight in Kampar

11.27am: Kampar, Perak - A four-cornered fight is set to start in Kampar among Harapan, BN, PN, and Warisan. 

According to returning officer Ahmad Suqairy Alias, no candidate was rejected during the nomination process. 

The candidates for Kampar are Chong Zhemin (Harapan), Lee Chee Leong (BN), Wong Oi Foon (PN), and Leong Cheok Lung (Warisan). 

For state constituencies, four-cornered fights also will be seen in Malim Nawar and Keranji. 

While Tualang Sekah - one of the marginal seats - will be a three-cornered fight between Mohd Azlan Helmi (Harapan), Abd Rahman Md Som (BN), and Pazli Abdullah Sani (PN).

MCA chief orders Batu machinery to move on following boycott talks

11.20am: Ayer Hitam, Johor - MCA president Wee Ka Siong said he will order the party machinery to move as a team and forget about the candidacy issue in the Batu parliamentary constituency.

Wee was asked if he will advise the party’s Batu division after the latter shut down its operations centre in an act of boycott after the seat was given to its BN coalition partner, MIC.

“The most important thing is that on Nov 19, BN can get a fresh mandate from the people.

“Just forget the other issues such as candidacy and different opinions.

“As the party president, I will direct all of our machinery to move on and move as a team to ensure victory for all BN candidates,” said Wee at a press conference after nomination at Ayer Hitam, Malacca.

On a separate note, Wee said this is his first time facing two Ustaz as competitors - Sheikh Umar (Harapan) and Muhammad Syafiq Aziz (PN).

“This will be a test of whether I could get Malay support as a non-Malay candidate.

“Besides, I would need to garner support from the 37 percent Chinese voters here, otherwise I couldn’t secure the seat.

“To win in Ayer Hitam, you have to get multiracial support,” added the four-term Ayer Hitam MP.

KJ: I’m not ready to go yet

11.02am: Sungai Buloh, Selangor - Sungai Buloh will see a seven-cornered fight, where outgoing health minister Khairy Jamaluddin is contesting.

When asked whether being fielded in Sungai Buloh is to end his political life, Khairy said: "I am not ready to go yet."

The candidates of P107 Sungai Buloh are:

2. Mohd Ghazali Md Hamim, PAS/PN
3. R Ramanan, PKR/Harapan

During the last elections, R Sivarasah from PKR won the seat by more than 20,000 votes.

I am ‘Fatt, Fatt’ - Warisan candidate hopes to get lucky

10.50am: Batu, Kuala Lumpur - Warisan’s candidate for Batu, Nathan Pillai, is hoping that Lady Luck will smile at him during his electoral debut.

“I’m No 8. Fatt fatt (luck luck in cantonese),” he says when a reporter asks about his number on the ballot paper.

Two police officers step in to remind both the candidate and reporter that questions are not allowed in the nomination centre.

Five-way battle in Tg Karang

10.50am: Tg Karang, Selangor - The Tanjong Karang parliamentary seat will witness a five-way battle between BN, PN, Pakatan Harapan, GTA, and an independent candidate.

EC returning officer for P095 Tanjong Karang, Mohd Raiz Radzuan, announces that the commission received five nomination forms and none were rejected.

The candidates are as follows:

GTA: Lando Zawawi
Independent: Mohd Rosni Mastol
PN: Zulkafperi Hanapi
Harapan: Siti Rahayu Baharin
BN: Habibah Mohd Yusof

Three-way tussle in Pagoh, Muhyiddin eyes another term

10.45am: Pagoh, Johor - PN chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin will be facing three contenders for the seat which he has held for eight terms.

As he departs the nomination centre, his supporters chant “Abah”.

His opponent from BN, Razali Ibrahim, says he is not daunted by the prospect of contesting in Muhyiddin’s stronghold.

“There is no telling on nomination day who may win. We are the underdogs (in Pagoh),” he says, but adds that Johor is a BN-led state.

Faizal, two others seek to end Anwar in Tambun

10.40am: Industrial Training Institute, Tambun - The EC returning officer announces a four-cornered fight for the Tambun parliamentary seat involving Harapan chairperson Anwar Ibrahim, Perak PN chairperson Ahmad Faizal Azumu, Umno’s Aminuddin Md Hanafiah, and GTA’s Abdul Rahim Tahir.

In GE14, the Tambun election was a three-cornered fight involving BN, Harapan, and PAS.

Faizal won the seat for Harapan by polling only 44.5 percent of the votes cast, while BN's Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah, the incumbent, polled a close second.

Prior to this, Husni managed to retain the seat for BN by polling 56.2 percent of the votes in 2013.

Nik Abduh wishes his replacement well

10.30am: Bachok, Kelantan - Nik Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz, the incumbent Bachok MP, appears at the nomination centre to back his replacement, Syahir Sulaiman.

"I hope you win and bring the voices and aspirations of Malaysian youths to Parliament," wrote Nik Abduh on his Facebook page as he reflects on the event.

Bachok has traditionally been a two-horse race between PAS and BN.

Umno’s Zahidi goes independent

10.30am: Padang Besar, Perlis - Incumbent Padang Besar MP Zahidi Zainul Abidin, who is from Umno, confirms that he is defending his seat but as an independent candidate.

He tells Malaysiakini that he submitted his papers at the Padang Besar nomination centre earlier.

"Yes, I am contesting as an independent candidate," he says.

Earlier, Zahidi posted on Twitter a photo of him walking into the nomination centre with a small number of supporters.

Zahidi was among several incumbent BN MPs who were dropped by the party from defending their seats in GE15.

The coalition had instead named Zahida Zarik Khan, who is Umno Puteri chief, as their candidate for Padang Besar.

Five-way tussle in Pandan

10.25am: Pandan, Selangor - It is official. The Pandan parliamentary constituency will be witnessing a five-cornered fight.

Harapan's Rafizi Ramli, former MCA president Ong Tee Keat who is now contesting under the Warisan ticket, BN's Leong Kok Wee, PN’s Farique Zubir, and GTA’s Nadia Hanafiah have been confirmed as candidates.

Annuar Musa backs replacement

10.10am: Ketereh, Kelantan - Incumbent Ketereh MP Annuar Musa is accompanying Marzuani Ardila Ariffin at the nomination centre.

This likely signals that Annuar, a two-term Ketereh MP, will support his replacement. Marzuani is the Ketereh Puteri Umno chief.

Marzuani told reporters later that she felt confident about winning this election after receiving Annuar's blessing.

"I have a good mentor and the support of the BN machinery. (Annuar) is supporting me unconditionally," she said.

Meanwhile, two other candidates are Khlir Mohd Nor (PN) and Rahimi L Muhamud (Harapan).

Ketereh is considered a marginal seat. BN lost it once in 2008 to a candidate from PKR.

Deepak hopes to pull the rug from under DAP

10.10am: Klang, Selangor - Initially, carpet trader Deepak Jaikishan, who joined Gerakan, was supposed to contest as a PN candidate for the Pulai seat in Johor. However, he has now set his sights on the Klang parliamentary seat instead.

"Yes, contesting as an independent," he tells Malaysiakini when contacted after nominations ended.

Harapan is fielding V Ganabatirau after deciding to drop three-term incumbent Charles Santiago.

Nomination ends, campaigning starts

10am: Nominations for the 222 parliamentary seats closed at 10am. The more than 1,000 candidates will now campaign for the next two weeks until midnight on Nov 18. On Nov 19, Malaysians will vote for a new federal government.

Three-cornered fight in Pulai

10am: Pulai, Johor - It’s a three-cornered contest in P161 Pulai, with incumbent MP Salahuddin Ayub, who is Amanah deputy president, facing Johor BN deputy chief Nur Jazlan Mohamed and PN’s Loh Kok Yong.

Loh, from Gerakan, previously contested and lost the Puteri Wangsa state seat during the last Johor state election.

Returning officer Miswan Yunus announces the close of nominations at 10am, marking the start of the campaigning period until midnight on Nov 18.

Irate Noh Omar loyalist runs as independent

10am: Tg Karang, Selangor - A Tanjong Karang Umno division committee member appears at the nomination centre to contest as an independent candidate.

Mohd Rosni Mastol, 59, says he wants to send a signal to Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for not fielding the incumbent Tanjong Karang MP Noh Omar.

"I disagree with the party president's decision to not let Noh contest," he adds.

‘Perompak’ vs ‘katak’

09:45am: Pagoh, Johor - Barriers erected between BN and PN supporters fail to stop both sides from engaging in a verbal spat.

As BN supporters make their way to their designated area to wait for their candidate, PN supporters are heard booing at them.

PN supporters shout “perompak” (robbers) and “penyamun” (bandits) while BN supporters retort with “katak” (political frogs).

BN supporters shout ‘Chin Tong lari’

9.40am: Ayer Hitam, Johor - Insults and songs erupt outside the nomination centre.

Among others, BN supporters shout “Chin Tong Lari" to mock Johor DAP chief Liew Chin Tong who is not contesting the seat despite promising to do so after he lost to the incumbent, MCA president Wee Ka Siong, in the last polls by 303 votes.

Meanwhile, Harapan supporters sing their theme song "Ayer Hitam semua undi Sheikh Umar", which was composed by the DAP candidate, Sheikh Umar Bagharib Ali, himself.

80-year-old makes election debut

9.35am: Bayan Baru, Penang - Ravinder Singh (PRM) is among the six candidates vying for the Bayan Baru parliamentary seat.

The 80-year-old tells reporters that he felt compelled to make his election debut to right the wrongs in Malaysia.

Others in the race are incumbent Sim Tze Tzin(PH), Saw Yee Fung (BN), Oh Tong Keong (PN), Jeff Ooi (Warisan) and Kan Chee Yuen (independent).

Rafizi: Working class behind Harapan

9.30am: Pandan, Selangor - Rafizi Ramli says the Pandan parliamentary constituency comprises working class people who are firmly behind Pakatan Harapan.

The PKR deputy president tells the media that even so, the party will still keep their ears close to the ground to ascertain the issues faced by the people.

Sea of blue accompanies Khairuddin in Kuala Nerus

9.30am: Kuala Nerus, Terengganu - Some 1,000 people in BN colours are accompanying incumbent Kuala Nerus MP Khairuddin Aman Razali to the nomination center.

Khairuddin - a former PAS member - was flanked by Seberang Takir assemblyperson Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman and Kuala Nerus Umno division head Apli Yusoff.

The duo are believed to be his proposer and seconder. This public display by the duo puts to rest speculation that Khairuddin did not have support of the BN-Umno grassroots.

The three other candidates are expected to be Dr Alias Razak (Perikatan Nasional), Suhaimi Hashim (Pakatan Harapan) and Azaha Wahid (Pejuang).

Pagoh witnesses flashy entrances

9.20am: Pagoh, Johor - If a bigger convoy is a sign of who will win the Pagoh parliamentary seat then it is a tie between BN and PN.

Muhyiddin Yassin is the first to arrive at the nomination centre with a convoy of over 40 cars and 500 motorcyclists.

He is closely followed by Harapan’s Iskandar Shah and Razali Ibrahim.

BN supporters while making an equally grand entrance decide to take it up a notch by honking to signal their arrival.

Iskandar Shah’s entrance was more subdued with just some 20 supporters.

GTA, BN supporters lock horns

9:15am : Industrial Training Institute, Tambun - GTA’s Abdul Rahim Tahir arrives with some 150 supporters, the majority of them youths.

His arrival caused a minor commotion when his supporters lock horns with BN supporters, but the police are able to diffuse the situation.

The Pejuang candidate in Tambun is seen as the “underdog” as he is set to go against Harapan leader Anwar Ibrahim, Ahmad Faizal Azumu (PN) and Aminuddin Md Hanafiah (BN).

Shamsul in high spirits

9.10am: Bagan Datoh, Perak - While waiting to file his papers, a jovial Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin told reporters that he was looking forward to challenging the six-term incumbent Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

"I am in such high spirits because I know that Malaysians are tired of the incumbent for Bagan Datuk.

"It is my jihad to represent Malaysians in our fight against the wrong doers," he says.

‘Pengkhianat’ chant rings out in Tambun

9.10am: Industrial Training Institute, Tambun - Former Harapan colleagues-turned-rivals Anwar Ibrahim and Ahmad Faizal Azumu arrive at the nomination centre around the same time.

Anwar along with Manjoi candidate Asmuni Awi and Hulu Kinta candidate Muhamad Arafat Varisai Mahamad are in the barricade.

“We will achieve victory,” Anwar says briefly.

Meanwhile, just 50 metres away, Faizal and some 200 supporters from PN, hoist flags while reciting prayers.

As Faizal and his team walk past Harapan supporters, they are bombarded with chants of “pengkhianat” (traitor).

“It’s typical of them. I am quite alright with it,” Faizal tells reporters.

Mom appears in dream, tells Azmin’s brother not to contest

9.10am: Gombak, Selangor - Azwan Ali has decided not to contest against his brother Azmin Ali.

“I dreamt about my mum and she told me not to contest, and there were other reasons why I didn’t contest,” he says.

Earlier, he arrived at the nomination riding pillion on a Ducati motorcycle.

Azmin, Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari (Harapan) and Megat Zulkarnain Omardin (BN) are also present at the nomination centre with their respective supporters.

Father and son dress up for Ramanan

9am: Sungai Buloh, Selangor - Businessperson Akbal Singh, 59, and his 18-year-old son arrive in tailor-made costumes, which cost RM1,300, to support Harapan candidate Ramanan Ramakrishnan.

Father and son are Lembuh Pantai voters but decided to support Harapan in Sungai Buloh because BN is fielding Khairy Jamaluddin.

Some 100 BN supporters turn up for Habibah

9.00am: Tg Karang, Selangor - Close to 100 BN supporters, most of them from Wanita Umno, gather at the BN command centre near the nomination centre at Dewan Dato Hormat.

They are waiting for candidate Habibah Mohd Yusof to arrive.

Malaysiakini learned that Muda's Siti Rahayu Baharin and Pejuang's Azlan Zawawi, or better known as Lando, are also on their way to the nomination centre.

Warisan candidates swarm Kampar

8.55am: Kampar District Council, Perak - Three candidates from Warisan will be contesting in Kampar and the two state seats under the constituency.

Max Puah Chee Haur, 35, who only confirmed his candidacy last night, is expected to contest in Keranji.

While incumbent Malim Nawar assemblyperson Leong Cheok Keng willdefend his seat under Warisan and his brother Leong Cheok Lung will contest for the Kampar parliamentary seat.

In total, Warisan will contest four parliamentary and nine state seats in GE15.

Dr M arrives at nomination centre

8.50am: Langkawi, Kedah - Former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad arrives at the nomination centre, accompanied by his wife Dr Siti Hasmah Ali and supporters.

The Incumbent is expected to face four opponents - Armishah Siraj (BN), Mohd Suhaimi Abdullah (PN), Zabidi Yahya (PH) and Abd Kadir Sainudin (Independent).

Ka Siong, Sheikh Umar’s supporters cross paths

8.55am: Ayer Hitam, Johor - Some 200 BN supporters welcome MCA president Wee Ka Siong at Arena Warna.

Wee is accompanied by his wife, Yong Peng assemblyperson Ling Tian Soon, and Semarang assemblyperson Samsolbari Jamali - the state seats under Ayer Hitam.

Ten minutes after Wee's arrival, Pakatan Harapan candidate Sheikh Umar Ali (DAP), clad in a white baju Melayu and some 80 supporters pass through the area and a slogan-shouting contest ensues.

Some BN supporters shout "Balik Paloh". Sheikh Umar was the former Paloh assemblyperson.

Tee Keat accustomed to battling ‘giants’

8.45am: Pandan, Selangor - Having served the constituency as far back as 1989, Warisan candidate Ong Tee Keat says he is not fazed by the notion of going against "gergasi" (giants).

When asked by the media about the prospect of going against PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli, the former MCA man said he has battled many “giants” over the years.

Meanwhile, BN's candidate Leong Kok Wee tells his rivals to be “gentlemen” during the contest.

Crowded race for Bayan Baru

8.45am: Bayan Baru, Penang - Sim Tze Tzin (Harapan), Oh Tong Keong (PN), and Jeff Ooi (Warisan) are at the nomination centre while Saw Yee Fung (BN) is making her way to the centre from the Umno division office.

Six candidates are expected to vie for the seat.

Tian Chua runs as independent

8.45am: Batu, Kuala Lumpur - Former Batu MP Tian Chua is contesting as an independent candidate. He arrives at the nomination centre with a group of supporters.

The former PKR vice-president will be facing his party’s own pick for the seat, P Prabakaran, who won Batu in the 2018 general election. Batu is expected to witness a multi-cornered fight.

Although not PKR’s choice, Chua says he is still with PKR in spirit and wants to ensure that the seat does not fall into the hands of “kleptocrats”.

Zahid’s challengers arrive

8.40am: Bagan Datuk, Perak - Dr Muhammad Faiz Na'aman (PN) arrives at the nomination centre dressed in a black baju Melayu.

He is accompanied by PN’s candidates for the two state seats under the parliamentary constituency - Mohd Mokheri Jalil (PAS), who is contesting the Rungkup seat, and Khairun Nizam Marsom (Bersatu), who is vying for the Hutan Melintang seat.

Faiz, who is a Bersatu supreme council member, is hoping to dislodge the incumbent and Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Harapan’s candidate Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin is also present.

Speaking to reporters, Shamsul says he is “pumped up” to face Zahid. “I am sure all Malaysians are bored of the incumbent,” he adds.

Tawfik Ismail, a former Sungai Benut MP, was also seen entering the nomination centre. He is expected to run as an independent candidate.

Tee Keat arrives amid 'Hidup Warisan' chants

8.40am: Pandan, Selangor - Former MCA president Ong Tee Keat arrives at the nomination centre accompanied by supporters at Dewan Perbandaran MPAJ. Ong is representing the Sabah-based Warisan, which is making its first electoral foray into the peninsular.

He later receives a call from, party president Shafie Apdal while supporters chant "Hidup Warisan".

Independent vies for state seat

8.25am: Industrial Training Institute, Tambun - S. Murugiah, 57, arrives at the nomination centre and will be contesting as an independent candidate in the Hulu Kinta state seat.

Hailing from Tanjung Malim, Murugiah contested in the same seat in GE14.

Hulu Kinta and Manjoi are two state seats under the Tambun parliamentary seat and are expected to see multi-cornered fights.

GTA first to arrive in Azmin’s ‘fortress’

8.20am: Gombak, Selangor - Gerakan Tanah Air Jamaludin Mhd Tahir is the first candidate to arrive at 7.45am. He tells reporters that he is unfazed about facing the incumbent Azmin Ali (PN) and Selangor menteri Amirudin Shari, who is representing Pakatan Harapan.

Independent candidate Zulkifli Ahmad, 64, is the second to arrive. He is a member of of the Bahtera Sejahtera Malaysia party, which has yet to be registered.

Others in the race are Megat Zulkarnain Omardin (BN).

Stalls set up along Anwar’s route to nomination centre

8.15am: Industrial Training Institute, Tambun - A “morning market” springs up along Anwar Ibrahim’s route to the nomination centre. There are stalls selling Pakatan Harapan merchandise, snacks and drinks.

Supporters, decked in various shades of red, are waiting for Anwar and his entourage to arrive. They chant the coalition’s tagline for this election - “Kita Boleh”.

Muhyiddin expected to make ‘grand entrance’

8.00am: Pagoh, Johor - Rain clouds loom over the Pagoh Higher Education Hub which serves as the constituency’s nomination centre.

The situation is calm for now, with police officers, Election Commission representatives and approximately 20 media personnel waiting in anticipation of the candidates’ arrival.

Former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin is expected to make a “grand entrance” later by arriving in a convoy tailed by a few hundred motorcycles, says one of his election officers.

He is to face BN’s Razali Ibrahim, who is the former Muar MP, and Harapan’s Iskandar Shah Abdul Rahman.

The incumbent Pagoh MP is seeking his ninth term in Pagoh.

Amanah supporters add colour to grey skies

8.00am: Pulai, Johor - Supporters holding up striking red and orange umbrellas as well as police personnel in reflective yellow raincoats add colour to the grey skies as rain continues to fall around Wisma Persekutuan, Johor Baru.

The group is accompanying Amanah deputy president Salahuddin Ayub who is defending his Pulai seat.

They are setting up a makeshift shelter while waiting for Salahuddin's arrival in order to march to the nomination centre.

Journalists pack Tambun nomination centre

7.50am: Tambun, Perak - Officials are setting up barricades in front of the nomination centre at the Industrial Training Institute, Ipoh.

Some 50 journalists and photographers are waiting around the entrance of the nomination centre, with some of them arriving as early as 6.30am.

Pakatan Harapan leader Anwar Ibrahim has picked Tambun as his launchpad to Putrajaya for this election.

Calm in Pandan - Rafizi's comeback bid

7.30am: Pandan, Selangor - A light drizzle welcomes the upcoming nomination for the Pandan parliamentary constituency at Dewan Perbandaran MPAJ.

A civil servant's voice is heard doing a mic test as police officers, Election Commission representatives and others are seen milling around the podium. Media representatives are also gathered across the road.

The constituency is expecting at least a four-cornered fight between Pakatan Harapan's Rafizi Ramli, former MCA president Ong Tee Keat who is now contesting under the Warisan ticket, BN's Leong Kok Wee, and Gagasan Tanah Air's Nadia Hanafiah.

7am: Over 1,000 candidates are expected to submit their nomination papers to contest the 222 parliamentary and 116 state seats in Perak, Pahang and Perlis, and one by-election in Bugaya, Sabah.

The general election this time sees only the three states - Perlis, Perak and Pahang - all of which are under BN, having their state elections held concurrently with the federal polls.

Other states led by PAS (Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah) and Pakatan Harapan (Selangor, Penang and Negeri Sembilan) did not dissolve their respective state legislatures - while Sabah, Sarawak, Malacca and Johor already had their state elections between 2020 and this year.

GE15 will be an election like no other.

Most of the seats in GE15 are expected to see a multi-cornered fight among major political coalitions - Barisan Nasional, Perikatan Nasional (PN), Pakatan Harapan, and a newly-formed group that calls themselves Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA). In Sabah and Sarawak, there are the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).

The 222 nomination centres are mostly located at district offices, land offices, community halls and school halls nationwide.

The nomination period starts at 9am and ends an hour later. Following which, the Election Commission’s returning officers of the respective seats will take another hour to deliberate on any objection raised and officially declare the contestants for the respective seats.

In the run-up to the last general election in 2014, several candidates had to be replaced due to issues with their documents and residential addresses, while one almost lost the chance to participate in the run for Wangsa Maju parliamentary seat after forgetting to bring her MyKad to the nomination centre.

Candidates vying for parliament seats would have to fork out RM10,000 in deposit whereas those contesting state seats, RM5,000. An additional RM5,000 and RM3,000 must be paid respectively for campaign material. Candidates would lose their deposit if they fail to obtain one-eighth, or 12.5 percent, of the total votes cast.

BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will lead the ruling coalition for the first time into the general election. This election will also witness Pakatan Harapan candidates contesting under the coalition's banner after having to use PKR's "eye" symbol in the 2018 general election.

Once the nomination is over, the candidates would immerse themselves in campaigning for 14 days until the stroke of midnight on Nov 18.

The following day, Nov 19, Malaysians would cast their ballots.
