GE15 | While candidates from opposition parties have begun to declare their assets, Perikatan Nasional (PN) information chief Mohamed Azmin Ali has slammed such “public announcements” as mere theatrics.

He disregarded such public declaration of assets, saying candidates from other parties can do so but claimed they are still involved in corruption.

Therefore, he stressed that candidates from his coalition will not follow suit with what their contenders are doing.

“This is all theatrics. If you are committed to fighting corruption in the system, then you set a good example.

“Your candidates should not be allowed to submit the nomination paper on nomination day when you are still struggling in court. That is our stand,” Azmin (above) told reporters after giving a speech to Tambun residents in Perak.

The PN election director was in Klebang Jaya to offer support to his coalition colleague Ahmad Faizal Azumu who is contesting in the Tambun parliamentary seat.

Azmin pointed out that asset declaration would only be made to the MACC by cabinet ministers, once the government is formed.

“And I had done that previously. This is among the steps that we should continue to ensure the leadership in the government, specifically the executive, can abide by the rules and not be embroiled in corruption.”

Previously, PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli became the first Pakatan Harapan candidate to declare his assets publicly on Nov 2, ahead of the 15th general election (GE15).

The Pandan parliamentary seat candidate, who declared he has RM18,851,350 in net assets as of Oct 31 this year, was taken to task over a rise in the value of his start-up Invoke Solutions.

PKR and PSM have required their candidates contesting in the national polls to declare their assets.
