GE15 | Pakatan Harapan’s Sungai Buloh candidate R Ramanan dismissed criticism that he has not been fully transparent when he did not provide a breakdown of his asset declaration.

He declared a net RM63.5 million in assets, including RM4 million in jewellery, but did not provide a detailed breakdown, as required by the party.

“I don’t think Sungai Buloh voters want to know how many rings, watches, and chains I have,” he said, pointing to two gold rings, a watch, and a gold chain he was wearing.

“I have made my declaration and so I want to tell these BN cybertroopers to ask (BN candidate Khairy Jamaluddin) for his asset declaration.

“He says ‘I have declared to the PM’ or ‘I have declared to the MACC.’ No. Sungai Buloh voters want to know,” Ramanan said to reporters in the constituency yesterday.

He added that the asset declaration by most PKR candidates shows they have “nothing to hide”.

Earlier, BN’s Sungai Buloh candidate Khairy said it is unnecessary for candidates to declare their assets to the public.

Yesterday, Malaysiakini reported that most PKR candidates have published their asset declarations on the party’s candidate website.

However, the declarations of party president Anwar Ibrahim, his wife Dr Wan Azizah Azizah Ismail, and party secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, were still pending.

The portal also reported that not all declarations were as transparent as others, with some, like Ramanan, only providing a lump sum figure and did not provide a breakdown of assets.

Others, like the Selangor and Negeri Sembilan menteris besar, went into detail including providing the lot numbers of the properties they owned.

Only PKR and PSM candidates have publicly declared their assets, with PKR requiring this of their candidates for the first time.
