Nothing political in recent meeting with Anwar - Nik Abduh

PAS central leadership committee member Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz has stressed that there was nothing political about his recent meeting, alongside his older brother Nik Omar, with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Utusan Malaysia quoted Nik Abduh (above) describing the meeting at a hotel in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, last Friday, as an ordinary affair.

"While I was an MP, I often met Anwar in Parliament. But since he became prime minister, I hardly get to see him," said Nik Abduh, a former Bachok MP who was dropped from PAS' candidates list in the last 15th general election.

"I met with Anwar after Maghrib prayers. At the meeting, I congratulated him and prayed he can carry out his duties well as prime minister," Nik Abduh reportedly said when met by reporters at the Pulau Melaka mosque yesterday.

On Saturday, PKR-linked preacher Wan Ji Wan Hussin told Malaysiakini he was requested by PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar to act as the middle person and arrange a meeting between Nik Abduh and Anwar.

Wan Ji said he had met with Nik Abduh a day before the start of Ramadan, earlier last month, but the meeting with Anwar only happened on the sidelines of the Madani Hari Raya open house in Kota Baru on Friday.

The preacher added that he had suggested that Nik Omar also be invited to the meeting.

According to Utusan Malaysia, Nik Abduh said he felt lucky to meet Anwar as prime minister.

At the same time, he claimed it was only a coincidence that his older brother, Nik Omar, was also present during the meeting.

"He came to see the prime minister. I already expected that photographs from the meeting would go viral because there were many people who took it," said Nik Abduh.

His relationship with Nik Omar was said to be strained after the latter decided to join Amanah. Nik Omar disagreed with PAS’ stance in 2018 to work together with Umno.

During the 14th general election, Nik Omar contested the Chempaka state seat under PKR’s ticket but was defeated.
