TV personality Amin Idris revealed that his offer to host a debate over the alleged theft of rare earth elements (REE) in Kedah has been accepted by Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

However, Amin said that caretaker Kedah menteri besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor did not accept the proposal.

“Saifuddin (above, right) has agreed but I have followed up with Sanusi’s officer, and he informed me that Sanusi is not willing to participate.

“I kindly request everyone to respect his decision,” he said.

Yesterday, Amin mentioned that he made the offer after witnessing Sanusi, who is also Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) election director, being bombarded with accusations of REE theft in the state he governs.

Amin proposed ‘The Amin Idris Show’ as a platform for the two to present their arguments and evidence in a professional manner on Aug 7.

In a further comment, Amin expressed gratitude to both parties for cooperating well and providing responses.

“And I pray for the best for Sanusi and Saifuddin,” he added.

Previously, Saifuddin alleged that Menteri Besar Kedah Incorporated (MBI Kedah) was aware of the alleged REE theft taking place in Bukit Enggang, Sik.

He argued that MBI Kedah should have been aware of the matter since the corporation hired a group of Chinese nationals to carry out exploration work in that area.

However, Sanusi denied the allegations and asserted that he had no involvement in those activities. In addition, Sanusi has linked the issue to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli had also invited Sanusi to debate ahead of the state elections involving Kedah and five other states on Aug 12.

However, Sanusi, known as PN’s “war commander” by some, declined the invitation, saying it would not change the country’s economic situation.
