Police are wrapping up their investigation against Perikatan Nasional chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin over his purported 'fatwa' during the recent Pulai and Simpang Jeram by-elections in Johor.
Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said they expect to complete the investigation paper and submit it to the Attorney-General's Chambers by Thursday.
"Police have recorded Muhyiddin's statement regarding his alleged 'fatwa' at the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) building this morning.
"The investigation paper is to be completed either by tomorrow or the day after (Thursday) and will be submitted to the AGC," Razarudin (above, left) told Malaysiakini.
Last week, police said they have opened two investigations against him over his remarks during the by-elections, where Muhyiddin allegedly touched on the 3Rs (race, religion, royalty).
They include an incident where Muhyiddin, also Bersatu president, allegedly told voters that it is "haram" for them to vote for Pakatan Harapan’s candidate for Pulai, Suhaizan Kaiat.
The case is being investigated by a police special task force on 3R, under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.
When asked whether police will propose for Muhyiddin to be charged in court for the alleged offence, Razarudin said they are still looking into all the evidence and statements.
It was understood that investigators have also recorded the statements of several other individuals to facilitate their probe into the case.
Meanwhile, on other investigations related to 3Rs against PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and former Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Razarudin said the respective investigation papers are still with the AGC.
Last week, Razarudin reportedly said that the papers on Mahathir were submitted on Sept 5 while ther papers on Hadi were submitted on Sept 7.
