Return KL to S’gor? Stop giving ammo to PN, DAP rep says

A DAP leader has urged government MPs to be more careful when making statements, especially on legal matters.
Sungkai assemblyperson A Sivanesan said this in response to a proposal made by Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung, to return Kuala Lumpur to Selangor.
"I think many other things can be discussed in Parliament that benefit the people.
"Such proposals need not be raised. This is more or less the same as the PN leader's earlier statement that Penang should be returned to Kedah," he told Malaysiakini.
On Sept 13, Lee proposed that Kuala Lumpur be returned to Selangor to create a "mega metropolis".
He said this was to ensure that residents in the Klang Valley enjoy quality affordable housing and more systematic public transport.

Lee's proposal also received support from Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng - who described it as an “interesting” idea that could help streamline policies and development plans.
However, Sivanesan (above) said such a statement would only strengthen Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor’s proposal to return Penang to Kedah.
“Perhaps after the statement of these two leaders, PN will repeat the proposal to return Penang to Kedah.
"So, I ask parliamentarians to be more careful when making proposals or statements in the future," Sivanesan said.
Kuala Lumpur used to be part of Selangor before it was made a federal territory in 1974, covering an area of over 200 km².
Sanusi previously sparked controversy when he claimed that Penang was still owned by the Kedah government and called for the Federal Constitution to be amended to support the claim.
He alleged that Kedah’s history had been distorted for hundreds of years and should be corrected to restore the state's lost rights.

However, Sanusi's proposal was rejected by Putrajaya.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim also criticised the proposal and described Sanusi as someone who lacks understanding of the legal and constitutional aspects of the country.
