Lawmaker lodges police report against PAS MP over 'DAP family conspiracy'

DAP lawmaker Syerleena Abdul Rashid has lodged a police report against Kepala Batas MP Siti Mastura Muhammad over the latter’s “DAP family conspiracy” allegations.

According to the Bukit Bendera MP, Siti Mastura’s claim that Bagan MP Lim Guan Eng had family ties with Communist Party of Malaya (CPM) leader Ong Boon Hua (Chin Peng) and Singapore’s first prime minister Lee Kuan Yew was “slander with evil intentions”.

“Such slander had been debunked many times previously, and Siti Mastura has not provided any evidence to back her claim, until today.

“Her slanderous act is aimed to distort facts and conjure stories to create a bad perception on (DAP veteran) Lim Kit Siang and his family,” Syerleena (above, centre) said in her report lodged at the Brickfields police headquarters this afternoon.

Accompanying Syerleena were Kuching MP Kelvin Yii, Kluang MP Wong Shu Qi, and Subang assemblyperson Michelle Ng.

Syerleena urged the police to investigate Siti Mastura under Section 504 of the Penal Code (breach of peace), as well as Section 505 (c) of the same law (intent to incite).

In addition, Siti Mastura’s speech - which went viral online - was also an offense under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act as well as Section 499 of the Penal Code (criminal defamation), Syerleena added.

“The reason I’m lodging this report is to enable the police to take appropriate action against Siti Mastura, and as a first information report (FIR) to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).”

‘At least Google first’

Speaking at a press conference later, Syerleena slammed Siti Mastura over the latter’s “shallow” accusations, which had put her own reputation at risk.

“As a person of religion, Siti Mastura should know that slandering someone is prohibited under Islam.

“The least she could have done is Google searched the matter at hand before opening her mouth and showing her ignorance,” Syerleena said.

She pointed out that such baseless slander could result in serious repercussions, including triggering radical acts by certain quarters.

“It is important for a politician like Siti Mastura to reject politics of slander and commit herself to engaging in honest and prudent political discourse, which is not aimed to destroy the community's harmony, Syerleena said.

Siti Mastura made the claim in her 46-minute speech to PAS’ women and young women wing members from Kemaman PAS, ahead of the upcoming Kemaman parliamentary by-election.

Aside from alleged family relations with the communist leader and Lee, Siti Mastura also claimed that Guan Eng is related to other DAP leaders such as secretary-general Anthony Loke, Nga Kor Ming, Ngeh Koo Ham, and Teresa Kok.

On Tuesday, Guan Eng gave Siti Mastura 48 hours to prove he is related to Chin Peng, as well as Lee, failing which he would take action.

Despite the ultimatum that expires today, Siti Mastura has continued to keep mum on the issue.

She had earlier evaded the media on the issue, merely asking them to watch the video of her speech “until the end”.
