'Not just Hamzah': Faizal says Bersatu has many potential successors

Bersatu has not just Hamzah Zainudin but also many other leaders who could be successors to lead the party, according to its deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu.

He agreed with Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin that the party has many potential successors, including two vice-presidents Mohd Radzi Jidin and Ronald Kiandee.

In addition, he said there are leaders in Bersatu’s party wings who are capable and could take over the party’s leadership.

“It is only the names mentioned but many more Bersatu leaders, (such as) Ronald, Radzi, and leaders of Armada (the youth wing), Srikandi (the women’s wing) - all of them are capable of taking over the leadership,” Faizal (above) said.

The former Perak menteri besar said this to reporters at the sidelines of the annual general meeting of the Bersatu party wings in Shah Alam today.

Previously, Free Malaysia Today quoted Muhyiddin as saying that he could monopolise power within Bersatu but has instead chosen to “look ahead and find the right time to train new people”.

This statement is believed to refer to Hamzah’s appointment as the opposition leader. Hamzah is also the secretary-general of Bersatu.

Meanwhile, Faizal said the party election has been postponed to next year.

“The election will only be held next year. We have decided to postpone the election for 18 months as allowed by the constitution,” he said.
