Indian party seeks to join PN

The Malaysian Indian People Party (MIPP) will make an official application to join Perikatan Nasional, said its president P Punithan.

According to him, the decision was made during the party’s central committee meeting held today.

“In line with the mandate given by the delegates in the special general meeting on Nov 23, as well as the unanimous decision by the central committee taken today, MIPP will officially apply to join PN.

“The party is open to, and will work with, any political party or leader who prioritises the welfare of the Indian community,” Punithan told a press conference in Sunway, Selangor today.

Punithan is a former Selangor MIC chief, who quit the party on June 30 this year.

He was later appointed deputy chairperson of the PN Indian community national committee led by PN secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin.

MIPP is an Indian-based party established in 2019 and Punithan was made the party’s new president in last month’s special general meeting.

According to him, the party will meet with PN leadership soon to talk about their intention to join the coalition.

“We want to join PN because we see there is still room and opportunity in the coalition for an Indian-based party to become a component, and to champion the Indian community’s agenda.

“We aim to open 160 divisions nationwide. We believe MIPP will be accepted by the Indians.”
