Isham sends representation, offers to apologise unreservedly

Isham Jalil has sent a letter of representation to the attorney-general in an offer to make an unreserved apology to resolve prosecutors’ contempt proceedings against him.

The former Umno information chief’s lawyers from law firm Messrs Jamie Wong issued the representation to the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) dated March 25.

During case management of the committal proceedings this morning, deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Akram Gharib told the Kuala Lumpur High Court that prosecutors received the representation late last month.

The DPP said Isham (above), through the representation, offered to make an unreserved apology to resolve the contempt matter linked to the 1MDB and SRC International criminal cases against former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak.

Judge Noorin Badaruddin presided over the matter and Isham’s counsel Jamie Wong confirmed with the court the issuance of the representation.

Case management on June 10

The court then set June 10 for further case management of the committal proceedings.

On Dec 28 last year, Attorney-General Ahmad Terrirudin Mohd Salleh filed an application for Isham to be jailed or fined for contempt of court.

The top government lawyer’s committal bid is over an interview titled ”Townhall for Justice: Keadilan Sebenarnya Untuk Siapa”, broadcast on the Facebook page “The Malaya Post” on Sept 30, 2023.

In the interview, Isham allegedly commented about the trial and appeal process of imprisoned Najib’s 1MDB and SRC cases.

A police report on the interview was also lodged on Oct 6, 2023.

Among others, Isham during the interview allegedly accused judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah of being biased in not withdrawing from hearing the 1MDB case against Najib.

He also purportedly questioned the legitimacy of Najib’s final appeal for the SRC International case at the Federal Court.

Isham allegedly alluded that the panel of five judges, led by Chief Justice Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat, had judged the appeal unfairly.

In the same interview, he also allegedly stated that the trial judge for the SRC International case, Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali, acted in a biased manner when hearing the case.
