Poet-actor Pyanhabib dies at 66

His wife shared the news of his passing on Facebook.

"My husband Pyanhabib that you knew is gone. He has returned to his creator. Forgive his mistakes and pray for him," she posted.

Malaysian National Writers Association (Pena) president Mohamad Saleeh Rahamad told Bernama he received a call from close friends about Pyanhabib's passing after 9pm.

He said Pyanhabib was supposed to read poetry at the recent Kuala Lumpur International Book Fair (PBAKL) 2024 but could not attend due to health reasons.

"He had not been feeling well since returning from performing umrah last year. He was thin, lost his appetite and his movements were quite limited," Saleeh said.

Born in Taiping, Perak on May 27, 1958, Pyanhabib was also known for his acting, having featured in movies like “Kembara Seniman Jalanan”, “Tsu-Feh Sofiah”, “Tak Kisahlah Beb” and “Rock Oo”

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil extended his condolences to Pyanhabib’s family.

Fahmi said Pyanhabib was a highly respected poet, writer, actor and artist beloved by all who knew him.

“At the start of my journey as an art enthusiast, I always waited for his poetry recitals. The last time we worked together was for a cameo in the Malaysia Madani video featuring Bunkface last year,” he posted on X, adding that Pyanhabib’s loss would be keenly felt by local artists.

“May you rest well in the eternal land. My condolences to his family over their loss,” Fahmi said.
