Police probing preacher for public mischief in secret conversion claim

Police are investigating preacher Firdaus Wong over an alleged statement that could trigger public mischief.

Lawyers Rajesh Nagarajan and Sachpreetraj Singh, who are acting for Malaysian Hindu Agamam Ani Association chairperson Arun Doraisamy, confirmed the authorities had opened an investigation under Section 505(c) of the Penal Code over the group’s report.

In a media statement today, the duo was referring to the NGO’s police report over an allegation that Firdaus (above) released a video providing guidelines and instructions on how to convert a non-Muslim child to Islam secretly.

“We are pleased to inform the public that the police have, finally, opened an investigation paper against Firdaus under Section 505(c) of the Penal Code.

“We hope that justice will be served and that Firdaus will be charged and convicted for his crimes against society,” both lawyers said.

Section 505(c) deals with the offence of making a statement with intent to incite any class or community to commit an offence against another class or community.

Giving advice

Earlier this month, Firdaus uploaded a video on TikTok showing him advising a man on how to handle requests to convert to Islam from some teenagers.

The TikTok video showed the controversial preacher engaged in a question-and-answer session at an event.

For the record, there was a misconception linking the Q&A session to Firdaus advising a teacher, which raised concerns among non-Muslims about their teenage children in national schools, leading to calls to bar the preacher from entering schools.

However, the Q&A session did not involve a teacher but rather a writer and TikTok influencer.

He asked Firdaus what should be done when underage non-Muslim teenagers want to convert to Islam.

Firdaus allegedly said the teenagers should be welcomed to convert to Islam but their conversions cannot be registered or announced.

He also purportedly shared advice on how these teenagers can practise Islam secretly so they can conceal it from others.
