Respect people's rights first - Akmal slams Harapan Youth leader

Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh slammed a Pakatan Harapan Youth wing leader who urged him to respect the Dewan Rakyat speaker’s decision to let six Bersatu turncoat MPs keep their seats.

Taking to Facebook, the Merlimau assemblyperson said what matters more is for political leaders to respect the people’s rights to reject “frogs” who destroy the country’s political scene.

“Do they (rules) apply only to one side? If after this there are parties wanting to support another party, will we allow that?

“At the end of the day, political ‘frogs’ benefit, while the country and the rakyat have to pay the price,” he wrote.

Akmal, who is also a Malacca state exco, was commenting on the remark by Harapan Youth deputy chief Mohd Hasbie Muda, who urged Akmal to respect Dewan Rakyat speaker Johari Abdul’s decision.

According to Hasbie, who is also Amanah Youth chief, Johari’s decision does not concern the anti-hopping law because the six representatives still wished to remain as Bersatu members, but were “pressured and forced” until their memberships were terminated.

Hasbie said the six representatives’ act of voicing support for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim does not equate to them jumping parties.

Earlier today, Akmal said Johari’s decision had rendered the anti-hopping law meaningless.

“The anti-hopping law was all for nothing.

“Political stability is only for self-interest. Don’t be angry with the people if they hate politicians.

“Have fun destroying the country, you political frogs,” the Merlimau assemblyperson said in a Facebook post last night.
