Use Nenggiri as another referendum against govt, says Annuar

PAS central committee member Annuar Musa has urged Malaysians to speak out against Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s government with their votes in the upcoming Nenggiri by-election.

“I want to invite the rakyat to go out in droves to participate in the people’s movement, the rise of the people through a referendum in Nenggiri.

“If the issues during Sungai Bakap were on diesel and corruption in Anwar’s government, then we will continue this referendum in Nenggiri,” Annuar (above) told about 200 people at the “Gelombang Selamatkan Malaysia” (Save Malaysia Wave) event at Kolej Universiti Islam Zulkifli Muhammad in Gombak, Selangor, yesterday.

The two important issues, he added, are the government’s misuse of the anti-hopping law and Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s choice to leave behind other Malay parties and work with DAP.

In the Sungai Bakap by-election on July 6, Perikatan Nasional secured victory with an increased majority and vote share as lower turnout hit Pakatan Harapan hard.

On Aug 17, the coalition government will face another by-election for the Nenggiri state seat in PAS-held Kelantan.

Umno-PAS unity

Annuar further called for unity between Umno and PAS to restore the country’s political stability.

After the fall of the Harapan government in 2020, Umno predicted that the key to healing the country would be through Malays leading the way in uniting Malaysians, the former Ketereh MP said.

"The people, especially the Malays, should lead the unification as we did when we began to form this nation and country, which started with the unification of the Malays and the Muslims.

“We then spread the wings of unity to give protection and a place to all minorities in our country without any racial sentiments or negative political values or anything else that is not allowed by Islam,” Annuar added.

At the event, Bersatu leader Badrul Hisham Shaharin, who was the emcee, revealed that two rallies would be organised.

One will be held on National Day (Aug 31) in Permatang Pauh, Penang while the other will be on Malaysia Day (Sept 16) in Kuala Lumpur.

“God willing, on Aug 31 we will be in Permatang Pauh to strip the spirit of reformation from Anwar, and on Sept 16, we will have 100,000 Malaysians in Kuala Lumpur,” said Badrul, better known as Chegubard.
