K'tan voters have embraced Madani govt, PM says over Nenggiri win

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim congratulated BN's Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani for securing a victory in Nenggiri yesterday.

The win in the state seat, he noted, signified the Kelantan people’s acceptance of the coalition government.

"It demonstrates that the people of Kelantan have embraced unity achieved through the coalition government.

"The victory also reflects the public's growing alignment with the wave of change under the Madani government, in line with the recent positive economic indicators," he said on Facebook.

Yesterday, Azmawi trounced Perikatan Nasional’s Mohd Rizwadi Ismail by bagging 9,091 votes as opposed to the latter’s 5,739 for the Nenggiri polls.

It was PN’s biggest defeat as it was their worst by-election performance since the 15th general election.

The total number of ballots received also declined from 53.3 percent in the state election last year to 38.7 percent and it was the first time since GE15 that a seat has changed hands.

On that note, Anwar said the victory would provide a morale boost for the Madani government, reinforcing its commitment to enhancing public welfare and advancing national prosperity.

“And I’m hopeful that this win will be a catalyst for continued efforts to elevate the nation to greater heights,” he added.

‘Let’s remain steadfast’

PN chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin said his coalition accepted the loss and stressed the importance of remaining steadfast in their struggle.

He also extended his appreciation to all PN leaders who worked tirelessly during the campaigning period.

"Your contributions and hard work are deeply appreciated.

"And our struggle to defend religion, race and country will continue to burn bright," the Pagoh MP said on Facebook.
