The Madani coalition has appointed Johor Amanah chief Aminolhuda Hassan as the coordinator for Pakatan Harapan's machinery for the upcoming Mahkota by-election.

This is after the coalition government secretariat resolved in a meeting last night for all its components to mobilise and support BN's bid to retain the seat.

"All component party machines in the unity government, especially BN and Harapan, will be fully mobilised to win the hearts and support of voters in Mahkota among various races and religions," said secretariat chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki in a statement last night.

Johor menteri besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi will lead BN’s campaign.

Mahkota is a state seat with almost 40 percent non-Malay voters. It is part of the Kluang parliamentary constituency under DAP.

The seat fell vacant after its incumbent Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain died on Aug 2.

Following that, Kluang Amanah tried to lay claim to the seat which it previously held from 2018 to 2022.

However, DAP and later the Amanah top leadership pushed back against the bid, arguing that BN should contest the seat on the principle of incumbency.
