BUDGET 2025 | The government has announced that a 20.23ha (50 acre) plot of land within the 196ha Bandar Malaysia development project will be gazetted as Malay reserve land.

Finance Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the announcement will be the first of more strategic areas identified for the same purpose.

“This is just a start in identifying suitable government-owned lands to ensure that urban developments do not disregard a long-term socio-economic balance,” the prime minister said when tabling Budget 2025 in the Dewan Rakyat today.

Permodalan Nasional Berhad and Pelaburan Hartanah Berhad will continue to increase partnerships to develop Malay reserve land for affordable housing projects, student hostels, and commercial developments, he added.

On May 28, 2011, former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak announced the Bandar Malaysia project, supported by 1MDB.

Bandar Malaysia is a 196ha (484-acre) development by Bandar Malaysia Sdn Bhd (BMSB), which is a wholly owned unit of TRX City Sdn Bhd - a 100 percent subsidiary of the Finance Ministry.

Other bumiputera-targeted initiatives announced in Budget 2025 include more support for businesses through centralising the roles of Pelaburan Hartanah Berhad and Ekuinas under the Bumiputera Investment Foundation.

Anwar also announced RM800 million in loans to be offered under Mara and PUNB for bumiputera entrepreneurs, including local artisans.
