Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has indicated that the whistleblower in the alleged Sabah corruption scandal would not be guaranteed protection if they were the bribe giver.

He said the bribe giver should also be investigated.

“If there is vague information including whether the whistleblower is also involved in corruption, it must be reviewed and investigated, not give them protection immediately,” he was quoted as saying by Astro Awani today.

When asked to comment on the scandal, he reportedly said whistleblower protection is only for those who are totally clean.

A businessperson claimed to have eight videos of Sabah assemblypersons allegedly discussing bribes.

He has been seeking whistleblower protection from the MACC in exchange for evidence he possesses.

In an open letter to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong today, the whistleblower admitted that he had given the assemblypersons the bribes.

The whistleblower claimed he had done so in desperation after allegedly being told that bribes were needed to secure a project in which he already made significant investments.

He said he decided to act against the allegedly corrupt assemblypersons so they could no longer extort others.

Anwar today called all parties to give the MACC room to investigate those involved in the eight assemblypersons case.

Earlier today, Sabah Chief Minister Hajiji Noor vowed to give full cooperation over the videos of state assemblypersons discussing money but likewise urged authorities to arrest and probe the alleged “bribe giver” first.
