PN not even eligible for grading, Puad scoffs at Shahidan

Taking potshots at Perikatan Nasional, Umno supreme council member Mohd Puad Zarkashi said the opposition would not even be eligible for grading if left to the rakyat.

He said this in response to Arau MP Shahidan Kassim’s claims yesterday that the government risked getting an “E grade” if the public had a say.

“According to Shahidan, the government risks getting a lower grade if the rakyat made the evaluation. Going by that argument, PN won’t even get a grade. They got routed in Nenggiri and Mahkota.

“And the PN government (from 2020 until 2022) failed… that’s why they lasted only 17 months. Total F,” Puad (above) said on Facebook today.

Two days ago, Bersih gave the Anwar Ibrahim-led federal administration a “D grade” in its mid-term evaluation.

The poor performance was attributed to the coalition government’s failure to implement significant institutional reforms.

The electoral reform group also ranked Anwar behind its predecessors Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Dr Mahathir Mohamad (in his second tenure) in fulfilling their reform promises.

Selective grading

Shahidan criticised the government following Bersih’s report, adding that it is facing problems both on the domestic and international fronts.

“To the point that the people who used to give the government a high recognition, Bersih, today we in the opposition nearly fainted when they gave a ‘D grade’.

“What does a ‘D grade’ mean? Whoever gets a D can still breathe, but in an injured state,” said Shahidan at a press conference with other opposition MPs.

On that note, Puad dismissed Bersih’s report and called it selective.

“This is the season to give grades, but they are all political in nature.

“And Bersih is a partisan NGO and is being selective,” the Johor state assembly speaker claimed.
