Zii Jia's sponsor apologises over upside down flag on jersey

The sponsor of national shuttler Lee Zii Jia, Victor, has apologised for an error in displaying the Jalur Gemilang on his jersey.

In a statement posted on their social media platform, Victor expressed regret for the mistake, emphasising that it was an unintended and accidental oversight.

“We sincerely apologise to all Malaysian badminton fans and Lee for the error displayed on his jersey during the HSBC BWF World Tour Final,” the statement read.

The company stressed that the mistake does not diminish its respect for Malaysia, its national symbols, or its pride in representing the nation on the international stage.

In the Group A opening match, Lee started his contest against Taiwan’s Chou Tien Chen with a jersey that had the Malaysian flag the right side up.

However, he swapped to a fresh jersey halfway through the second set, and it was this jersey that had the inverted Jalur Gemilang.

Victor announced that they will conduct a thorough investigation of their processes to prevent similar incidents in the future.

“We are conducting a comprehensive review to ensure such errors do not recur.

“Once again, we offer our sincerest apologies and appreciate your understanding,” the statement concluded.

Lee won the match against Tien 21-13, 21-15.
