MTUC boots out its president, Dauzkaply now acting chief

The Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) has removed Mohd Effendy Abdul Ghani as its president.

The union decided this during a meeting on Jan 19.

“As such, Effendy (above) is no longer authorised to use, represent or attend any events or meetings organised by the union.

“He is also barred from contesting for any MTUC positions for the next two terms.

“Any statements issued by Effendy after this no longer represent MTUC,” its acting president Dauzkaply Nor Ghazali said in a statement today.

Under MTUC’s regulations, one term is equivalent to three years.

Probe on Effendy

According to Dauzkaply, the decision was made after its disciplinary committee tabled its findings in the investigation on Effendy.

“The committee deliberated on the matter thoroughly and decided to remove Effendy from his post,” he added.

However, Dauzkaply did not elaborate on what exactly Effendy was investigated for.

Effendy was elected MTUC president in July 2022 for the term 2022-2025.

He beat his challenger Japar Abdul Majid by securing 288 votes, while the latter garnered 107 votes.

Dauzkaply further said MTUC has instructed its secretary-general to write to the human resources minister to seek an appointment with the latter.

“This is to discuss issues in regard to the minimum wage, proposed laws for gig workers and other matters,” Dauzkaply added.
