Guan Eng tells supporters to unite under Loke, make DAP stronger

Newly elected DAP adviser Lim Guan Eng is taking the high road after yesterday’s internal polls saw his influence in the party waning.

Addressing supporters, he urged them to unite behind DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke and strengthen the party.

"Congratulations to Loke for becoming our secretary-general again and to Gobind Singh Deo for being the newly appointed chairperson.

"Wishing both every success and rest assured we will unite under Loke. Let’s keep moving forward together to make DAP stronger!" he said on Facebook today.

Deep appreciation

He also expressed gratitude to his supporters and critics.

"Many have expressed concern about all the news reports about me. Just wanted to take a moment to say thank you to all my supporters - and even to those who don’t support me.

"Thanks for your concern and encouragement. I appreciate it deeply from my heart!" he added.

Lim helmed DAP as its secretary-general from 2004 to 2022 - an extended term thanks to the Registrar of Societies forcing the party to re-do its 2012 election twice, in 2013 and 2017.

In 2022, upon hitting his three-term limit as secretary-general, Lim was elected as the DAP chairperson.

However, his popularity in the party has declined - with speculation that Loke had teamed up with party veteran Nga Kor Ming to limit Lim's influence.

This culminated in Lim coming in 26th place in the 30-member central executive committee election on Sunday.
