Kamil Abdul Munim, an aide to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, is contesting the PKR Youth chief’s post in the coming party polls on May 24, according to a report.

Utusan Malaysia reported Kamil, the present deputy youth chief, as saying he decided to offer himself for the post to strengthen the wing and boost grassroots regeneration.

“I am offering myself up as PKR Youth chief and I hope to be given the chance to head the wing,” he was quoted saying.

Kamil further stated that PKR, as a party that celebrates democracy, is opening up opportunities to anyone qualified to offer themselves up for contest, the report said.

Kamil is Anwar’s political secretary in the Finance Ministry.

Malaysiakini previously reported at least nine PKR Youth state chapters have declared their support for Kamil as the next chief for the party’s youth wing.

The states backing Kamil include Penang, Perak, Selangor, Kelantan, Terengganu, Johor, Perlis, Negeri Sembilan, and Malacca.

State PKR Youth leaders supporting him have cited his role as the deputy youth chief in strengthening the organisation and mobilising the party machinery.

Current PKR Youth chief Adam Adli Abdul Halim had announced that he would be running for a position in the central leadership council.
