Puad returns fire at MIPP, calls it a 'mosquito party'

In a tit-for-tat response, Umno supreme council member Puad Zarkashi called the Malaysia Indian People Party (MIPP) a “mosquito party”.

“I didn’t even know the existence of the party… what more of it being a Perikatan Nasional component.

“I’m sure it’s just a mosquito party, as the media hardly gives them coverage. I hardly noticed its presence during the Ayer Kuning by-election,” he said on Facebook today.

Yesterday, MIPP president SP Punithan defended his ally PAS after the Islamist party was blamed for non-Malays rejecting PN during the Ayer Kuning polls.

This was after Puad claimed that PAS, with its purported Islamic state narrative, is hindering PN’s efforts towards meaningful alliances with non-Malay parties.

Punithan said it was ironic for Puad to say so, given how badly Umno treats its partners, MCA and MIC.

Remember Gerakan?

On that note, Puad said it was too early for MIPP to say it was more dignified for them to work with PAS, urging the Indian-based party not to end up like Gerakan.

“Would MIPP be given one seat? Don’t end up like the Gerakan president (Dominic Lau), who got boycotted in Bayan Lepas despite being the candidate.

“He was even told to get off the stage in Sungai Dua by PAS. What a pity,” the Johor state assembly speaker added.
