Don't make hasty decisions, Sabah PN warns PAS over GRS alliance

Sabah Perikatan Nasional chairperson Ronald Kiandee has warned PAS not to make hasty decisions regarding the coalition’s potential cooperation with Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) for the upcoming state election.

This came after PAS leader Annuar Musa expressed his personal view that PN should support GRS in the Sabah polls following Pakatan Harapan and BN announcing their electoral pact.

In response, Kiandee (above) said it’s difficult for any party to take a firm stance on alliances as Sabah’s politics can change in no time.

“Annuar should not have been so quick to comment because Sabah’s political dynamics are always evolving. His statement has been overtaken by current developments,” Free Malaysia Today quoted Kiandee as saying.

The Beluran MP said he predicted new developments related to a possible realignment involving GRS, Harapan, and BN following Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s call yesterday for the three coalitions to cooperate for the nation’s stability and state politics.

“As the head of PN and Bersatu in Sabah, I’ve provided a detailed briefing on the current political situation in the state.

“Annuar should have passed on his proposal to PAS representatives to be discussed by the PN supreme council,” Kiandee added.

While making his suggestion yesterday, Annuar, a former Umno secretary-general, also hoped that PN would study the option of contesting under the GRS banner or even sit out the polls entirely.

PAS wants ‘grand coalition’

Besides Annuar, PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man also mooted the idea of PN, GRS, and Warisan forming a pact to take on BN-Harapan.

“Umno (BN) has decided to work with Harapan, and in Sabah, we have Warisan, GRS, and PN.

“So, I feel if we can create a grand coalition that would be better, and I see the need for this framework, for PN, GRS, and Warisan to create a pact to face Umno-Harapan,” he said.

Tuan Ibrahim pointed out that PAS has a good relationship with GRS and would engage with Bersatu to review the need for a strong coalition in the upcoming polls.
