Jho Low in Shanghai? Saifuddin says cops have no evidence

Police have not obtained evidence about the whereabouts of fugitive businessperson Low Taek Jho, better known as Jho Low.

Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said this when asked to comment on claims by two independent journalists that Low is in Shanghai, and working as a "behind-the-scenes strategist" for the China government.

"Until now, I can say that court orders regarding the location and passport use of those individuals, have no supporting factors or evidence to substantiate his location.

"That is all. We haven't found him. If we did, we would give an update," he said in Kuala Lumpur today.

He added that claims made regarding Low's whereabouts remain just media reports for now.

Last week Bradley Hope and Tom Wright - who played an instrumental role in uncovering the 1MDB scandal - claimed that Low is living in Shanghai and using a fake Australian passport under a Greek name, Constantinos Achilles Veis.

Low, the alleged mastermind of the 1MDB scandal, faces multiple corruption and money laundering charges. He is also wanted in the US.

He is accused of orchestrating the swindling of US$4.5 billion (RM19 billion) from 1MDB.
