'Muhyiddin a victim,' Tun Faisal rejects MCMC classifying ex-PM as witness
Bersatu information chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz has accused the MACC of mischaracterising party president Muhyiddin Yassin’s role in an ongoing investigation implicating him in a statement related to targeted RON95 subsidies.
Insisting that the Perikatan Nasional chairperson is the victim in the case, Tun Faisal rejected MCMC’s classification of Muhyiddin as a “witness” and instead pinned the blame on Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Insisting that the Perikatan Nasional chairperson is the victim in the case, Tun Faisal rejected MCMC’s classification of Muhyiddin as a “witness” and instead pinned the blame on Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
“(Anwar) is the person of interest/suspect in relaying and spreading fake news/deception.
“Anwar is also a witness responsible for providing MCMC with information on the source of the fake news. The source was part of his ‘homework’, right?” the opposition figure said in a Facebook post.
Yesterday, MCMC said Muhyiddin was being probed as a witness, not a suspect, as part of its investigation to verify facts surrounding the case.
The commission’s investigation was ordered by the prime minister, with the Prime Minister’s Office taking note of Muhyiddin’s denial regarding claims he had defended the provision of targeted petrol subsidies for foreigners.
The former premier’s denial came after Anwar, during the Prime Minister’s Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday, claimed that Muhyiddin had questioned the government’s decision not to provide petrol subsidies to foreigners.
Anwar made the remark in response to an interjection by Hulu Terengganu MP Rosol Wahid, who asked the prime minister to name the opposition leader who supported allowing foreigners to enjoy petrol subsidies.
PAS MP Ahmad Fadhli Shaari has since argued that Anwar’s actions in ordering the MACC probe constitute a serious abuse of executive power, involving political interference in an enforcement body that should act independently.
