Kedah MIC eyes ties with PN, but leaves decision to central leaders

Kedah MIC has passed a resolution to cooperate with Perikatan Nasional and does not rule out the possibility of leaving BN, according to China Press.

However, the final decision will be left to the party’s central leadership, said Kedah MIC chairperson SK Suresh.

He reportedly revealed that MIC’s central working committee had never discussed the matter of leaving BN and cooperating with PN.

However, the Kedah MIC delegates brought up the matter and surprised party president SA Vigneswaran, who was also in attendance at the state chapter’s annual general meeting yesterday.

“We have conveyed the resolution to the president, but the final decision will be made by the party leadership,” said Suresh.

He pointed out that the people of Kedah, especially the Indian community, have begun to grow weary of the current federal government, with some regretting their vote for Pakatan Harapan.

As local leaders, they must speak up for the people.

“We don’t need to inform Umno about this, because when Umno cooperated with PAS in the past, they didn’t tell us either. Now that we intend to work with PN, this is our own decision,” he stressed.

Can’t remain silent

Suresh said MIC can no longer remain silent over alleged neglect of rights of the Indian community - including issues related to education, Hindu temples, and various other concerns - since the formation of the coalition government.

He also stressed that if defending the rights of the Indian community means that MIC must leave BN, they are prepared to do so, but the decision must come from the party’s central leadership.

According to the report, Suresh said he was not worried about facing disciplinary action from the party, as he was merely voicing the sentiments of the Indian community.

He also noted that he had worked with the president during his time in the youth wing, and the president knows his character.

Vigneswaran reportedly declined to address the media, but had earlier delivered a speech in Tamil from the stage.
