Muda mind blown over failure to revoke Muhyiddin's son-in-law's passport

Muda has slammed law enforcement authorities over their failure to revoke the passport of former premier Muhyiddin Yassin’s son-in-law, Adlan Berhan, a fugitive businessperson who has been on the MACC wanted list since 2023.

This followed Immigration Department director-general Zakaria Shaaban's statement saying they have not received any request to revoke the travel document of Adlan (above), who is suspected of corruption.

Muda information chief Leben Siddarth said the inaction was shocking, especially given the case is of high public interest.

"How can it be that in a country with multiple enforcement bodies, each department is still working in silos, unable to communicate or coordinate effectively?

"If MACC, the police, and the Attorney-General’s Chambers are already aware of the case, why has immigration not been formally notified?

"This is either a breakdown in inter-agency communication or a deliberate attempt to delay action.

"Either way, it raises serious questions about the efficiency, accountability, and transparency of our enforcement system," he told Malaysiakini.

MACC’s request to Home Ministry

Yesterday, MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki said that the agency had already submitted the request to the Home Ministry.

According to Azam, they believed Adlan could be in the Middle East.

In February last year, Azam said Adlan, who has been missing for two years, would be facing criminal breach of trust charges.

In August 2023, Adlan, through his lawyer, denied being on the run and claimed to have left the country on business.

He had promised to return to Malaysia if there were no elements of "threats and persecution".
