Budget: Tax relief expanded to home-use CCTV, more vaccines

BUDGET 2026 | Taxpayers who install CCTV systems for home use can enjoy up to RM2,500 tax relief on their individual income tax between next year and 2027.

This is based on the government’s Budget 2026 proposal tabled by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim earlier today.

According to appendices uploaded to the budget website, Putrajaya is proposing the current RM2,500 tax relief provided for environmental sustainability-related expenses to be expanded to CCTV for home use, as well as for household food waste grinders.

The relief currently only covers expenses related to electric vehicle charging facilities and household food composting machines.

“To promote sustainable and safe lifestyles through the adoption of green technology and smart safety systems, it is proposed (that the) scope of individual income tax relief of up to RM2,500 for expenses on electric vehicle charging facilities and food composting machines be expanded to include household food waste grinders and CCTV for home use.

“The tax relief claim for the purchase of food waste grinders and/or CCTV is allowed once within a period of two years of assessment,” it said.

Meanwhile, in a move to promote vaccinations as a “key preventive healthcare measure”, the government is proposing to expand its individual income tax relief of up to RM1,000 to cover “all vaccines registered and approved for use” by the Health Ministry’s Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency.

Currently, the tax relief is only for vaccination expenses for eight types of vaccines, including pneumococcal, human papillomavirus (HPV), influenza, rotavirus, varicella, meningococcal, TDAP (tetanus, diphtheria, and acellular pertussis), and Covid-19.

The relief covers expenses for the individual taxpayer, spouse, and children.
