Bersatu summons more division leaders to face disciplinary hearings

The Bersatu disciplinary board will summon at least two more division leaders on Feb 12, based on complaints surrounding their alleged links to remarks that had tarnished the party’s reputation.

The two leaders are Dungun Bersatu chief Abdul Aziz Ismail and Hulu Langat Bersatu information chief Shafiq Abdul Halim, according to notices from the disciplinary board that were leaked to the media.

The notice sent to Aziz was based on complaints dated Oct 27 and Oct 28 last year, that he was involved in a roadshow led by sacked Bersatu leader Wan Saiful Wan Jan in Malacca.

“The respondent is alleged to have attended and delivered a speech at the Jelajah Semarak Bersatu event organised to protest the decisions of the disciplinary board.

“At the same event, various allegations and statements in the form of attacks against party leaders were made openly,” according to the notice signed by Bersatu disciplinary board chairperson, Radzi Manan.

Meanwhile, Shafiq was summoned to face allegations arising from four separate complaints filed on Oct 15 and Oct 16 last year, as well as on Jan 31 and Feb 3.

In the first complaint, he was accused of openly attacking Bersatu information chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz during a live social media session, while commenting on prior disciplinary actions.

Wan Saiful was sacked from Bersatu on Oct 14 last year, along with four other division leaders, while Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal was served with a six-year suspension.

The fourth complaint against Shafiq, meanwhile, stated: “The respondent is alleged to have been the mastermind behind efforts to tarnish the party’s image in the mainstream media and to have frequently gone live on TikTok to insult the party and its leadership.”

Separately, FMT reported that three other division chiefs are also summoned before the disciplinary board on Feb 12 - Ahmad Nasir Mid (Selayang), Zulkifli Bujang (Johor Bahru), and Ramlan Meon (Tangga Batu), each linked to separate incidents in 2025.

According to the report, Nasir faces two complaints, including publicly calling for Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin’s resignation and backing party deputy president Hamzah Zainudin to succeed him.

Meanwhile, Zulkifli, a former aide to Hamzah, is alleged to have instructed Johor Bahru division delegates via WhatsApp to boycott Muhyiddin’s winding-up speech during the 2025 annual general assembly.

Calls for action against Hamzah

Earlier today, two Bersatu supreme council members - Kuala Selangor Bersatu division chief Harrison Hassan and Kuala Langat Bersatu chief Rosnizan Ahmad - separately urged the party’s disciplinary board to probe allegations against Hamzah, who is accused of backing actions critical of Muhyiddin.

The statements targeting Hamzah came amid speculations of fresh internal attempts to push for the Larut MP’s sacking through a “petition” allegedly circulated among the party’s elected representatives and division chiefs.

Sources close to the opposition leader claimed attempts to collect support for the move against Hamzah, who is currently abroad, will be finalised during a gathering at Muhyiddin’s house tomorrow night.

Sources close to Muhyiddin, however, dismissed the purported petition, with one source insisting the gathering is an annual affair ahead of the upcoming Ramadan.

Malaysiakini sighted a copy of the invitation signed by Bersatu secretary-general Azmin Ali, sent to all of the party’s senators and elected representatives, with a reminder that they have a “duty to attend and listen to Muhyiddin’s address on Bersatu’s future and strategic plan”.
