YOURSAY | Misguided leaders wasting precious fuel

YOURSAY | ‘Can’t the prime minister use binoculars or Google Maps?’

Fuel crisis: PM visits 3 states in 3 days, thousands ride with PN MBs in 10km 'convoy'

Apanama is back: It is good that Malaysiakini reported the huge wastage of fuel by both Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Perikatan Nasional chief Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar.

This showed politicians such as Anwar, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform), Azalina Othman Said and Samsuri will talk one thing and do the opposite.

This is why I used to comment that Malaysian taxpayers are generous and helpless due to these types of politicians.

Anwar said he does not draw any salary, but he wasted money going to three states, using a helicopter.

Koel: At a time when there is a worldwide crisis hitting people, it is distasteful to see opportunistic politicking by opposition figures whose only interest is populism.

Would it not earn the opposition a lot more goodwill to work with the government and to pledge cooperation to try and make people's lives easier at a time when we are expecting job losses, shortages and various forms of hardship?

Would state government money not be better spent on preparing community initiatives to address food inflation, healthcare, education, and transportation that would help the common man feed their families?

With fuel shortages looming, how are these state governments making preparations to provide forms of mass transportation by appealing for wealthy state donors to step forward and help? On these crucial matters, we hear nothing.

Instead, we see the worst types of politicians wasting time, energy and state resources on meaningless motorcades rather than offering constructive ways to face the hard times that are already upon us.

Once again, we see why PN has the most uneducated and immature fellows who will only bring destruction and difficulty upon the country while seeking the best goodies for themselves.

So thank you, Terengganu, Kedah, Kelantan and Perlis for reminding us. Let us also remind you that yours are consistently among the poorest states in the peninsula, no doubt due to antics like these that fail the people.

Milshah: The problem with Malaysia is that the fuel prices are heavily subsidised.

So many do not understand why there is a need to reduce transport costs, why the government needs to work from home.

They do not understand that the fuel prices are high, but the government is bearing the cost burden.

That is why many continue to want things to operate as business as usual.

We are not in panic mode like other countries.

We need to change this mindset; we need to reduce fuel costs as much as possible, as the government cannot subsidise it forever.

MarioT: At a time when one should conserve fuel and use it prudently, a bunch of misguided individuals led by an opposition without any care and concern for the country, go about wasting the fuel with a show of stupidity.

TC: PKR deputy president Nurul Izzah Anwar is right to reprimand PN motorcycle convoys, but why keep quiet on your father and bootlickets burning more petrol for unnecessary campaigning?

In a loud voice, Anwar said he is not worried about the election; he is only concerned about saving the country.

R_A_G: Very insensitive. The quality of the PN leaders is appalling. Protest with a long walk, not by riding bikes unnecessarily to stage a big drama by wasting fuel when all have responsibility to conserve fuel in these trying times.

Use your personal money, not subsidised fuel, if you want to take voters for a “ride”.

GoldenParrot4280: The wisdom of PN leaders is on display for everyone to see.

PN supporters only know how to attack Anwar and the government.

I sure want to see them try defending this wasteful stunt.

Cyclonus: Both sides are a bit tone deaf.

The convoy was absolutely wasteful and unnecessary. But so was the chopper ride to see the distance between Pulau Batu Puteh and Middle Rock.

Why not just measure distance on a map?

Knucklehead2: PN and Pakatan Harapan are no different - telling people to conserve while they themselves indulge in joyrides on motorbikes and helicopters.

With fuel prices soaring, this is nothing but a waste of public funds.

This does not make sense.

Open minded 2281: Time to reduce the subsidy limit for motorcycles to 100 litres, as the present amount of 200 litres is too much, and they waste it on convoys.

YellowIguana8808: One side works from home to save fuel, and this circus of 15,000 motorcycles and a helicopter ride is a reflection of true leadership.

GP2025: Visits and work on the side. Apt description!

Azalina, don’t fool the public. We know whose agenda you are indebted to.

Nurul Izzah, if we are having major fuel problems despite being an oil producer, whose fault is it?

Isn’t it because Petronas is now a net oil importer, not a net oil exporter?

And who let this happen? Previous administrations or your father’s leadership, which made deals with the Sarawak government to give it more autonomy, including oil and gas rights?

A thoughtless decision based on a lack of understanding of consequences.

Now, Petronas can’t act as a buffer in the event of an oil crisis because it can’t produce enough oil.

The problem is your father.

Beman: What's the point of seeing with his own eyes the proximity of the two rocks? Would it help him to make a better decision?

Bornean: Nurul Izzah slammed the PN's convoy for wasting fuel. That is good.

By the way, Nurul Izzah, do helicopters run on "water"? Can’t the prime minister use binoculars or Google Maps?

Anon2000: If someone tells Anwar that there are craters on the moon, will he go there to see for himself?
