SNAPSHOT | Ulu Bendul Forest Eco Park closes due to rat urine disease; Over 4k people punished for littering

Health

• The Ulu Bendul Forest Eco Park in Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan, has been temporarily closed to all activities until May 24, Bernama reported.

  This is after two reports of suspected leptospirosis, also known as rat urine disease, had been linked to the area.

• The World Health Organization said there is no indication that the hantavirus outbreak aboard the cruise ship MV Hondius will become significantly larger.

  

  However, additional infections among the passengers remain possible.

  Thus far, 11 cases have been confirmed, and another two people are likely to test positive.

Littering

• Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said more than 4,000 people have been fined RM2,000 each for littering and were ordered to perform 12 hours of community service.

  

  “Each of them is also required to sweep roads, clean drains, and carry out other cleaning work for up to 12 hours as part of their community service,” Bernama quoted him as saying.
