• Police arrested a 28-year-old woman for knife possession at the Rain Rave Festival finale last night.

  A viral clip showed festival goers apprehending the woman before she was arrested.

  

  Besides this, Kuala Lumpur police chief Fadil Marsus said there were no untoward incidents at the three-day event.

• Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming hailed the Rain Rave Festival as a success for tourism and a multicultural Malaysia, telling critics they are free to choose their way of life but should not act “holier than thou”.

  However, Nga also had a warning for litterbugs.

  

  “We have your record and are going after you. ‘Congratulations’, an RM2,000 compound and another 12 hours of community service are eagerly waiting for you,” he said in a Facebook post today.

• Selangor religious affairs exco Fahmi Ngah wants police and the MCMC to clamp down on those who make social media posts insulting the state’s royal institution.

  This is over a digitally manipulated photo portraying Selangor’s Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah in swimwear, believed to be in connection with backlash over the Rain Rave Festival. The ruler has not made any public remarks about the three-day party.

  

  Fahmi, in a statement last night, said the royal institution is not just a symbol, but a protector of harmony, stability, and prosperity - and as such, any insults should not be tolerated.

Environment

• Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh said a 300m buffer zone has been implemented on the proposed development opposite the Taman Persekutuan Bukit Kiara recreational park.

  During an event at the park yesterday, she said that the decision came after considering possible effects on residents as well as the local environment.

  

  According to The Star, the Segambut MP said that negotiations with the developer are still ongoing.

  Earlier this month, residents held a town hall session to launch a petition to increase the buffer zone to at least 300m, as the National Landscape Department’s previous guideline had set it at 50m.
