• PAS had wanted Bersatu to find a way to work with rebels it had expelled from the party for the sake of Perikatan Nasional, a close confidant to Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin revealed.

  Marzuki Mohamad said PAS supreme council member Annuar Musa relayed this during a meeting with Muhyiddin on June 4, and later in a letter from PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan on June 6.

  Annuar confirmed with Malaysiakini that he had met Muhyiddin. The portal has also contacted Takiyuddin for comment.

  Marzuki (above) said Muhyiddin then replied to PAS on June 7, saying Bersatu was prepared to consider the Islamist party’s demands but that it had to go through a process of meetings.

  However, PAS decided to move ahead with splitting from Bersatu on June 8.

  

• Bersatu information chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz said that PAS’ demand for Bersatu to make room for the Reset team was unreasonable.

  He said the Reset team had committed various offences against Bersatu, questioning whether PAS would be so forgiving if it involved their members.

  

  “When was the last time PAS sat down with Amanah and (its president) Mohamad Sabu, and accepted them back to PAS in the name of brotherhood and Muslim unity?” he asked.
