State elections

  • Negeri Sembilan PAS Youth has condemned an Amanah Youth leader for describing DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke as the state’s fifth undang, or territorial chieftain.

The incident occurred during the launch of Pakatan Harapan election machinery in Seremban on Friday, when Amanah Youth secretary Ahmad Shahir Shah, as the event’s master of ceremony, was inviting Loke to the stage.

“Without further ado... Do you want to listen to YB Anthony’s speech? In Negeri Sembilan, people called YB Anthony as ‘tok undang’, the fifth undang. I welcome YB Anthony,” Shahir had said.

In a statement, Negeri Sembilan PAS Youth chief Irsyaduddin Fadzil described the incident as an insult to the state’s four territorial chieftains and urged authorities to investigate.

  • DAP will announce its candidates for the Johor state election a week ahead of the June 27 nomination day, said Loke.

However, there will be a separate session for the Mengkibol seat on June 18, which Loke said would see a different candidate as DAP plans to field its incumbent Chew Chong Sin for a parliamentary seat in the next general polls.

“In a discussion with Johor DAP chief Teo Nie Ching yesterday, we decided to announce our candidates for the Johor election on June 20. An event will be held in Johor Bahru for this,” he told a press conference in Seremban.

On the Negeri Sembilan state election, Loke said Harapan aims to win back all 20 seats that it won in the 14th general election, and hopes to secure several others to form a stable state government.

Politics

  • The Johor Reset movement is prepared to transform all its 26 divisions in the state into Parti Wawasan Negara following former Bersatu deputy president Hamzah Zainudin’s decision to join the party.

Johor Reset coordinator Zulkifli Bujang said the move would allow the reform agenda championed through the Reset movement to continue through a formal political platform.

Zulkifli described the establishment of Wawasan Negara as an important step to ensure the struggle initiated through Reset could be pursued in a more organised and effective manner.

He added that both Reset and Wawasan Negara shared the same objective of reforming a system in need of change and building a “New National Consensus” capable of uniting Malaysians from diverse backgrounds.
