• Former law minister Zaid Ibrahim has joined PAS, pledging to work hard to dispel the Islamist party’s image as “an extreme anti-democratic party, not suitable for a multicultural Malaysia”.

  “On the contrary, PAS is the only Malay-majority party with the strength and resolve to do away with inequality, hegemony and class preferences. The essence of Islam will be the governing principle.

  “You will not have under the PAS rule where we are described as equal, but some are more equal than others,” he said in a Facebook post today.

  This marks Zaid’s fifth party affiliation, after Umno, PKR, Parti Kesejahteraan Insan Tanah Air, which he founded, and DAP.

State elections

• BN confirmed it will contest the Johor and Negeri Sembilan polls using its logo, its secretary-general Zambry Abd Kadir said, in a statement.

  The party will also introduce a BN direct membership plan, aimed at widening participation by attracting professionals, young people, and members of the public in line with BN’s constitution.

  

  At the same time, Zambry stressed BN’s commitment to reinforcing unity among its component parties as well as “Friends of BN”, calling this essential for maintaining political stability and building a government administration that enjoys public confidence.

  BN also reaffirmed its continued support for the Madani government until the end of the term.

Transport Ministry event 

• Johor caretaker menteri besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi expressed disappointment that the state government was not formally invited to several Transport Ministry events related to major rail projects in Johor, despite the state’s involvement and financial contributions.

  Onn said he only learned through the media that he had been “invited” to a KTM Komuter event this Tuesday, claiming his office had not received any official letter or programme details. 

  

  He also questioned why political figures were seen at certain ministry events, while the state government was excluded, despite being told attendance was limited to vendors or suppliers.

  While he will adjust his schedule to attend the upcoming event, he said government projects should not be treated as political property and that official duties and political activities should remain separate.
