MIC sold us into 'slavery'

vox populi big thumbnail Yes, congratulations to Hindraf for highlighting Indians' plight. If Samy Vellu really cares for the Indians, he should leave gracefully and not be pushed out in disgrace.

On Seven issues affecting the Indians

Marion Tharsis: Yes, congratulations to Hindraf for highlighting Indians' plight. Hindraf has brought about awareness with one peaceful demo while the MIC failed even to scrape the tip of the iceberg owing to its greed and corruption. MIC sold us into 'slavery'.

From two full ministerial positions, we now have one. Our bank is lost and now insurance share too is now gone away and MIC claims we cannot achieve our percentage in economy when what little we had was handed over in a golden platter.

What ‘rebrand’? We need a complete revamp and overhaul of the MIC. If Samy Vellu really cares for the Indians, he should leave gracefully and not be pushed out in disgrace which is bound to happen when the election results are in.

KL: All this 30 years, Samy Vellu has been numb and deaf to his community. He only cared about himself. If not for Hindraf, I don’t think he will raise the seven issues. He is not only a traitor to the Indian community, but also to the rakyat of Malaysia as well.

Advise to the people of Sungei Siput that if he re-contests the seat again, kick him out. We residents of Bandar Mahkota Cheras, Bandar Sungai Long, Cheras Perdana, Taman Indah, Cheras Vista and other adjacent housing estates will make sure the the BN candidates for these areas will get kicked out during the coming general election.

Ahmad Fuad: Lest the Indian Malaysian community be bitten by the sindrom mudah lupa bug, I want them to remember 1999. Prior to the election of that year, the Chinese made some requests - the ‘Suqiu Demands’ to which the then PM responded positively.Lo and behold! Immediately after the elections, the demands were deemed made by communists! No chance of it happening again? Yeah, right.

On Bibles confiscated by Customs Dept

KD Chia: As a Malaysian Christian, I am really aghast at what the customs authority has done by confiscating Christian bibles. This is pure nonsense of the highest kind and a thorough insult. It is really a shame on the Malaysian government Why are they so keen to harass the Christians and their practises? How come the custom authorities are so sensitive in regards to other religions?

Come on, all of you voters out there. If you feel like me and do not want to see such thing repeated, it is high time we kick them out through the ballot box. Destroying Indian temples so close to Deepavali, harassing people of other faiths. Really tired of this government Must vote them out.

On Indians will vote against BN: Pak Lah

Mooshie Mooshie: It is very nice to know we have a PM who always says he is listening - but to whom? Does he even know how to use the Internet to listen to what the people are saying?. Bloggers are not bad people you know. Forget about your deputies, Pak Lah. Come to the ground and see for yourself how the Malays, Chinese and Indians are suffering.

Crime, price hikes, corruption etc. Need we say more? Must all the races march in protest before you do what is right? We believe Hindraf is only the start. The next wave will be at the polls. For the Chinese, it is not only about religion or Chinese schools.

We also need to feed our families. Listen to us Mr. PM and show us the way - your way

On Tearing up Rashid's photo: PM mulls action

Loo Kok Leong: It seems Abdullah is more keen to defend people like EC chief Rashid and the police force than the interests of the people. What did he do when the people said Rashid should go? He amended the federal constitution to enable this man stay on his job.

What did he do when people said to curb crime that we should clean up the police first? He chose to upgrade their hardware, offered a watered down Special Complaints Commission and kept telling people it's their responsibility to help fight crime. The police are untouched. Nah, he is not for the people - he is for his own people.

On 'Election goodies' for Chinese community

Disappointed True Malaysian: Why is it that now is the time of the year that the Chinese and the Indian communities are getting the ‘goodies’? Why isn't the same situation during the last four years? Do we need to wait for each general election before we can get these ‘goodies’ and then get a ‘bashing’ for the rest of the government’s elected tenure?

The government has to be sincere in uplifting the livelihood of all Malaysians instead of just a single race alone. The government must not have any hidden agendas.

Hamisu: There is no doubt in my mind now that the general elections will be held in March. These are election photos I have seen in Sungai Dua (mainland Penang). Apart from this area, I also see similar sights in Simpang Ampat, and also Sungai Petani, Kedah.

It does seem a little unfair that BN is already making its presence felt even before elections are called. I wonder how does this actually mean fair elections when the ‘campaigning’ has already started. I truly wonder whether this is legal to do. So, is it OK to jump the gun?

Abdul Rashid, as chairperson of the EC council, would you please share your thoughts on this matter? I am sure the opposition as well as Bersih would love to hear some comments from you. Who knows? Maybe PM Abdullah Ahmad Badawi might share his thoughts on this matter as well.

On PGCC project grinds to a halt

Studiously Observant: I agree with Penangites that the entire PGCC project be scrapped. The choice of place is atrocious. A better place was where the Queensbay Mall stands. It is still possible to reclaim land at many places and build the PGCC there. It has to be coastal. Penang is an island and the sea should be part of PGCC. That is a very important element. Forget about disturbing hills and over-riding the hills with high-rises. Rain comes where our hills are not disturbed. If there is no water, there is no life.

As for the Turf Club land, it is best left for playing fields and halls for activities as well as restaurants. Penang is a food paradise.

The new second bridge had better include some form of rail or LRT. We are already planning LRT for the island and it ought to be extended to the mainland. It is no point to do damage later just to build the LRT.
