  • Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Abdul Karim urged the Sabah government to allow Bersih director Asraf Sharafi Azhar to enter the state.

The lawmaker argued that, at the very least, it should be for humanitarian reasons to allow Asraf to meet his wife and two children, who are all Sabahans.

Hassan (above) further stated that the travel ban may be excessive if it is linked to freedom of expression issues in light of the activist’s participation in a recent protest over the corporate mafia scandal.

  • Parti Bersama Malaysia president Syukri Razab expressed similar concerns, saying the Sabah government must explain the reason behind the travel ban.

In a statement, he said the state must also explain if the ban had anything to do with the march to Parliament yesterday, where Asraf and other activists handed a memorandum calling on the government to set up a royal commission of inquiry into the corporate mafia scandal.
