• Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin rejected Umno veteran Yusoff Latiff’s calls for the party to be disbanded to allow its members to join Umno and unite Malay politics.

  “I was sacked by Umno and only then did I go on to lead Bersatu. So why should I return to Umno? Does that make any sense?” the New Straits Times quoted Muhyiddin as saying.

  

  The former prime minister added that he had informed Bersatu members that even if he is the only one left defending the party’s struggles, Bersatu will continue to exist as he will carry on its fight.

Tabung Haji

• Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the royal commission of inquiry report on Tabung Haji (TH) could be released either today or after the next cabinet meeting on Wednesday.

  He said the government had already agreed in principle to release the report, but it was delayed to allow TH’s recovery and management reforms to progress without undermining public confidence.

  

  “Our concern at the time was a mass withdrawal of savings by depositors,” he was quoted as saying by Free Malaysia Today.

  The premier added that he would first confirm with the chief secretary to the government whether cabinet approval was required before the report could be released.

Defence

• The Defence Ministry has signed a letter of acceptance (LOA) with MBDA France to procure a surface-to-air missile system for the navy’s littoral combat ship (LCS).

  

  The LOA was signed by Defence secretary-general Lokman Hakim Ali during the Farnborough International Airshow 2026 on July 20.

  “This procurement represents an essential supplementary contract for the LCS project, ensuring that the vessels possess air defence capabilities that meet the navy’s operational requirement,” it said on Facebook.

  The ministry added that the agreement reflects the government’s continued commitment to strengthening maritime defence amid evolving geopolitical challenges.

Identity cards

• The National Registration Department stated that Malaysians only need to update their MyKad addresses if they move to a new permanent residence, a requirement already covered under Regulation 15 of the National Registration Regulations 1990.

  It denied claims that the government was forcing all citizens to replace their MyKad or seeking revenue through the process.

  

  “There is no specific campaign to require the public to change their addresses, nor is the NRD conducting any special operation to take action against citizens who have yet to update their addresses on their MyKad,” it said on Facebook.
